Overall a good example of an Imperial stout. Good smoke, malt back notes, and floral hop[ping ensures this beer will cellar well for a few years. It is only lacking in the meatiness of a stout of this abv.

12oz bottle pours a dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma of licorice, chocolate, peanuts, and a dry roasted malt. Very full well rounded flavor, dark dry roasted malts, bitter-sweet chocolate with coffee, molasses and licorice, with a spike of alcohol. Well rounded and very nice!

Awesome beer. Creamy dark and semisweet chocolate, smooth coffee, cream, roasted malt and a nice bit of cherry sweetness. Great cranny texture.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/28/2012. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, light licorice, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, light-moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, light licorice, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisin, plum, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, light-moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly bready/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Russian imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, light-moderate dark fruit, and light earthy hops flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

had this many times, but now getting around to rating this bottle thanks to phaleslu. Poured a fairly dark brown color from the bottle, but appears black in the glass. a large, light brown head. Nose is full of dark chocolate and cocoa powder with just a hint of roast and coffee in the nose. Taste is initially full of coffee and roast, not much cocoa comes through in the flavor. Very bitter, slightly sharp, but just short of too much. Medium body, light carbonation. A hint of alcohol comes though in the ears after a couple of sips, more in the chest after that. Slightly grassy as well. pretty solid beer.

12 oz bottled on 5/5/12. Pours pitch black with no foam. Nose is roasty but slightly sweet. First sip is boozy with a creamy mouthfeel but finishes very smooth with an intense roastiness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Transfer from BA review on 1-23-14- Poured from growler into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours an almost pitch black color with a small fizzy head of a cream color. The head fades almost instantly leaving only a very tiny level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a roasted malt smell also containing a big sweetness with brown sugar and vanilla most prevalent. Along with these smells are some other darker aromas of cocoa and coffee along with some other sweet smells of caramel and a bit of a bourbon aroma. Taste – The taste begins dark and sweet with lots of roasted malt flavors mixed with a huge vanilla and brown sugar taste. The sweet flavors remain strong throughout the taste with other flavors of toffee and some dark fruit flavors of raisin, plum, and fig all developing after the initial taste. Other darker flavors of cocoa and some toast come to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. Toward the end some coffee and a lighter earthy hop flavor come to the tongue balancing out some of the sweeter flavors nicely. With a warming bourbon boozy flavor coming to the flavor profile at the very end, one is left with a nice warming, sweet, and robust dark flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both the thicker body and the lower carbonation are fantastic for the dark and boozy flavors of the brew with it also accentuating the multitude of sweet flavors in the beer with it furthermore making for one fantastic slow sipper. Overall – This is one sweeter but still balanced and massively flavorful imperial stout. Very tasty!!

On tap at Pete’s Place. Pours a dark black with a light mocha colored head. A chocolate and coffee aroma that runs into the flavor. A nice carbonated feel. Chocolate upfront that goes into a slight coffee bean flavor. As it ends a big hop presence makes it’s way into the taste and into the mouthfeel in a big way.
