3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Pours deep black with minimal beige head.
Deep roasted aroma with lots of dark malt, burnt toast, and roasted coffee bean.
Taste is smoke and roasted coffee bean bitterness with very little malt sweetness to balance. It has almost an instant coffee quality to it. Alcohol heat is also present.
This beer is actually pretty light in body with a long dry finish.
It’s nothing to write home about. Certainly not in my wheelhouse, though I am not a coffee drinker. If you like coffee, maybe give it a shot?

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap black with small gray brown head. Taste is initially sweet malt. That gives way to layers of coffee, chocolate, fruit and more malt. Very nice overall smooth with good mouthfeel. Overall very good...... maybe just a touch too sweet for some but nevertheless well worth a try.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours pitch black with a thin dark tan head. The head fades to a fairly thick ring around the edge of the glass with a few spots of thin lacing.
The aroma is loaded with dark fruit and has an overall sweet quality to it. Cherries and pipe tobacco come to mind along with dark chocolate and raspberries. A touch of dark roasted coffee too.
The flavor is very sweet; almost too much. Lots of fruit in the way of raspberries and cherries with the tobacco a little lighter than it was in the flavor. Dark chocolate with coffee and some licorice. The sweetness is present throughout with it limiting the drinkability somewhat. Sticky finish.
Overall, I like the flavors in this beer but the mouthfeel leaves a bit to be desired. A bit thin in the middle but too sticky at the end and too much sweetness through it all. Not bad, though.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A thick and almost inky stout that lays it on thick with familiar flavors. Burnt sugar, roasted coffee, licorice, i touch of ash and some graininess fill in the palate while a light bitterness form the hops finishes the beer off.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tootsie Roll aroma (but, y’know, in a good way) heralds the arrival of an imperial stout with more than its share of hops and a great overall hop-malt balance. Drank it slowly from a snifter served at Erv’s in Oak Creek, WI (while listening to a totally unusual karaoke duo dressed as bride and groom -- Saturday night’s are wild in Oak Creek!).

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Khyber Pass. Black pour with a generous heap of tan foam on top. Runny lace. Mocha toffee. Brandied plums. Greek coffee. Liquorice root. Chocolate caramels. Some nice ashy notes as well. Body reads thin at first but broadens in the finish. Not silky enough to read as a true Russian Imperial. Good stuff though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Found at my local Hy-Vee. Served only slightly cooled. It seems to pour thin and with minimal head. Appearances are deceiving, however, as the rich roasted flavor starts with a nice amount of hops. The finish is smooth and the mouthfeel belies the thin lacing. As good as advertised and not to be missed on a cold winter's night.
