4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 AWISLguy (689) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 20, 2012Bottle from B&B Beverage in Wind Lake at cellar temperature. Pours root beer colored, very dark brown with a light brown head leaving some spotting lacing. Aroma has roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Light smoke. Taste is of slightly burnt roasted malts, bakers chocolate and coffee. Starts quite sweet, but becomes progressively more bitter through the glass. No discernible alcohol presence. Finishes bittersweet with some length, and some smoke. Possibly a touch thin. A very nice one! Surprised I had never had before.

Extra from cpetrone84. Thanks, Chris! Bottle said enjoy by 8/22/10, so presume this was the ’09? Has held up well...still enjoyable in June ’13! Nice coffee, vanilla, and chocolate notes. Deep black. Bit thinner than I like my imperials, but nice mouthfeel...on the sweeter side, but nice bitter dark roast bitterness...maybe hops have faded? Not too complex, but enjoyable all the same!

On tap. Black with a finger-wide tan head, good lacing. Aroma is expected - roasted malts, coffee, slight smoke. Flavor is much of the same but with sweet caramel and chocolate notes. A bit on the cloying side, sticky, good carbonation level.

Black pour, tan head. Roasty and chocolatey, and some bitterness is present in the flavor. It’s an enjoyable imperial stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Phatdog1 (127) - Brentwood, New Hampshire, USA - APR 10, 2013
12 oz bottle (4/20/2012) poured into a snifter. Seemed to pour lighter than expected for the style. Half inch thick khacky head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, burnt sugar and some booze off in the distance. Immediately sweet on the tongue which fades into dark fruit, most noticeably raisin. Chewy malt finish with a tinge of hops lingering. A bit thinner than expected for an imperial, but tasty none the less!

It doesn’t seem imperial, but it is a marvelous stout with chocolate and roasted character to spare. Forget about style, because this beer is incredibly enjoyable.
