A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.
Available in February & March.

Pours from the bottle with a deep brown, nearly black color, and is topped by a creamy, cream-colored head. The aroma is largely a dark, sweet combination of caramel and molasses sweetness, with some bittersweet chocolate. The flavor is a bit more complex, with characteristics of roasted, almost smoky malts, brown sugar, and some peppery, herbal hops, but there is also some lingering bitterness that seems almost metallic, and a noticeable hit of alcohol. The fine carbonation does a nice job of not masking this varied flavor profile, and the body isn’t too heavy. Overall, this beer has a lot of what you’d expect from a solid imperial stout, but it doesn’t have anything extra to make it exceptional.

Transfer from BA review on 1-23-14- Poured from growler into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours an almost pitch black color with a small fizzy head of a cream color. The head fades almost instantly leaving only a very tiny level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a roasted malt smell also containing a big sweetness with brown sugar and vanilla most prevalent. Along with these smells are some other darker aromas of cocoa and coffee along with some other sweet smells of caramel and a bit of a bourbon aroma. Taste – The taste begins dark and sweet with lots of roasted malt flavors mixed with a huge vanilla and brown sugar taste. The sweet flavors remain strong throughout the taste with other flavors of toffee and some dark fruit flavors of raisin, plum, and fig all developing after the initial taste. Other darker flavors of cocoa and some toast come to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. Toward the end some coffee and a lighter earthy hop flavor come to the tongue balancing out some of the sweeter flavors nicely. With a warming bourbon boozy flavor coming to the flavor profile at the very end, one is left with a nice warming, sweet, and robust dark flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both the thicker body and the lower carbonation are fantastic for the dark and boozy flavors of the brew with it also accentuating the multitude of sweet flavors in the beer with it furthermore making for one fantastic slow sipper. Overall – This is one sweeter but still balanced and massively flavorful imperial stout. Very tasty!!

On tap at Pete’s Place. Pours a dark black with a light mocha colored head. A chocolate and coffee aroma that runs into the flavor. A nice carbonated feel. Chocolate upfront that goes into a slight coffee bean flavor. As it ends a big hop presence makes it’s way into the taste and into the mouthfeel in a big way.

Milk chocolate and caramelized roast. Pours black without a ton of head or lacing. Bittersweet finish. Has a nice roast musk that grows on you after a few sips. Tap at Black Squirrel.

On tap in Rochester at the brewfest. Old rating notes. Thick, rich and creamy with huge malt flavors, coffee, chocolate. Relatively sweet but balanced well by burntness and alcohol. Very nice.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2014 Strong coffee and less chocolate than most stouts. The high alcohol gives it a very nice palate. I like how it foams brown too. Got for $9.99 for 4 pack.

35,5 cl bottle @ olio, BBE 18.03.2013
Aroma has strong cocoa notes. Also vanilla and hayish tones. Flavour has salty licorice, soy sauce, cocoa tones and tobacco. Also some bready malt tones occur at the end of the glass. Alcohol is present but does not disturb.

355 ml bottle. BBE 18.03.2013.
Pours ruby red (out) color with a small head. Nice chocolaty and coffee-infused aroma, some dark roasted malts with faint licorice, faint fruity notes too. Creamy smooth palate, vanilla and cocoa on the flavor, some wood, dark roasty malts and chocolate. Soft carbonation. Good but I hoped for even more, seems that this not stand the test of time.

355ml bottle from a trade, thanks cp45!

BBE 03/18/13 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, dark chocolate, cocoa, hints of cardboard. Taste is roasty, malty and dark chocolatey with notes of cocoa and espresso. Finish is sweetish, roasty and malty with some cocoa and dark chocolate notes. Feels a bit old, perhaps this would be better fresh.
