4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
I was told about this beer a few weeks ago, and I had to try it. I have never tried a Russian Imperial Stout before, so this was going to be a adventure for me.
The beer pours an opaque black, with a thin dark brown head. The aroma is rich dark and complex, with notes of coffee, caramel, toffee, rich roasted malts, and some bourbon.
The taste blew me away, this is not beer! This is magic! A rich velvety blanket of bitter-sweet dark chocolate, coffee, chewy toffee, plum, and figs. The sweet bourbon was a little subdued, but as the beer warmed up it began to shine through.
This beer is something else, I picked up a few more and I am going to let them age. I have little experience with Imperial Stouts, but I am quite sure that this will be hard to beat for quite some time!

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750mL bottle from LCBO, purchased despite the $15 price tag. Pours opaque black with brown head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and even a little cherry. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, with a roasty bitter finish with some alcohol in it - imperial stout perfection. Medium-full body with medium carbonation. Another winner from GLB - I really wish these 25th Anniversary series beers were always available!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml bottle shared by jprime. Black with a tan head. A masterfully crafted imperial stout aged perfectly in a bourbon barrel. The barrel compliments the base beer so well it’s hard to imagine the two apart. Really good BA impy!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from the LCBO - shared with gethinbeer. Deep black pour with a thick tan head. Fades relatively quickly. The aroma is a little bit muted for the style. Soft milk chocolate and leather along with a soft vanilla and caramel middle malt character. An intense sticky mouthfeel and a little bit of sweet coffee character. Unctuous palate and a lot of sticky sweet malt character. There is a bit of tootsie roll chocolate character. Loads of vanilla and a touch of bourbon as well. Some nice spiciness but it’s incredibly smooth. Tasty beer.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Shared with JoeMcPhee, thanks bruv. Black colour with a thin chocolate coloured lace which clings to the glass. Roasted malt, peat and chocolate aroma. Vanilla and chocolate flavour. Smooth on the palette. Only a hint of the alcohol for the strength. Very tasty and easy drinking imperial. Delicious.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black with an initial dark tan head.
Little lacing. Nose is vanilla with maybe some espresso and bitter
chocolate. Aromas are bitter chocolate, roasted malt, espresso,
vanilla . Tastes are heavy sweet with medium bitterness to the finish.
Oily in the mouth with light-medium carbonation. Alcohol is present,
but well integrated. Top notch.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is full of bourbon with crystallized fruits, brown sugar, cherry, field berries and raisins. Magnificent nose, complex, with bourbon all over and several notes of fruit and sugar. Color is black, opaque, with a thick dense and creamy brown head. Medium lasting and great lacing. Attack is very warming with alcohol sticking out strongly but not aggressively. Molasses, cherry and field berry notes are mixing well with alcohol making the mouth feel very round and thick. Roast bitterness is adding to strength as finish and lasts very long. Body is full, texture creamy and round. We can also feel coffee, milk chocolate and caramel making their way trough the flavor palette. A very warming and complex RIS. It’s just missing a little something with it’s balance sugar / bitterness to raise it up at the level of outstanding.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sweet baby Jesus this is good. The best imperial stout from Canada I think I may have ever had. Pours your typical motor oil with a short lived mocha coloured head. The aroma is dark roast coffee, chocolate, dark cherries, vanilla, oak, bourbon, awesome. The flavour delivers everything the nose promises, a good underlying molasses sweetness underlies all the dark coffee and chocolate goodness with cherries, vanilla and oak showing up near the end. Bourbon becomes very evident in the finish. A little lighter in the mouth feel department than I was anticipating, but it works somehow. A fantastically executed beer. Wish I grabbed a few more to age.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
(On tap at A Night with GLB and Amsterdam Brewery @ Bar Hop, Sept 19 2014, cellared since late 2012) Pours black with a moderate dark tan head and lace. Aroma sweet milk chocolate, toffee, light char, some bourbon and just a bit of dark roast coffee. Palate is sweet dark malts, toffee, bittersweet chocolate, toasted oak, drying towards the finish with some alcohol heat, bourbon, cacao beans and lingering light roast. Medium full, silky, soft carb, really smooth. Not the most heavily concentrated and sweet of the style, beautifully balanced, deft use of barrel, incredibly drinkable - lovely stuff. Alongside Full City Double Tempest from similar barrels, much sweeter on the nose but much drier on the palate. Cracked a bottle a week later and found it drank similarly well with a bit more carbonation, but needed air for flavours to pop. Wish I had another bottle!
