Pours an almost opaque black with big creamy light brown head that leaves good amounts of sticky lace up the glass and seems to settle . Aroma consists of roasted malts, some dark chocolate, and slightly earthy. Flavour is roasted malts just short of being burnt, dry coffee, dark chocolate and a mix of mild hop/dark malt bitterness. Tasty beer.

Thanks to cfrancis for this one. Pours an opaque black with a big frothy brown head on top. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa and a bit of dark dried fruit. Taste is chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and a nice smooth bitterness on the finish. No detection of alcohol on this one but definitely a full bodied big beer, excellent to drink after dinner.

750 mL bottle at a tasting at Dan’s, served in a stem glass. Pours mahogany with a moderate tan head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has dry roasty malts with a touch of smoke and herby, earthy hops. The flavour is more of the same, but with added roast coffee and charred malts, with perhaps a touch of oats. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent strong porter, very dry and smokey. 2012-08-11

(750ml bottle from the LCBO) Pours black with a little mahogany around the rim and a big dark head of bubbles that faded without lace. Aroma chocolate malt, toffee, medium roast, leather, blackberry?. Flavour slightly sweetish chocolate malts, roast, lactose sourness, vanilla, smoke, greenish hops. Finishes dry, roast coffee, some hop bitterness, ash, bit of alcohol. Balance between sweetness and ash and hops is good. This is quite full and creamy and silky for a porter, carb slightly heavy but swirled out with ease. This is even better in barrel-aged form, but it is an excellent base beer.

750ml Bottle - ALL MINE!!!! Black pour, not too thick looking, huge lasting frothy/creamy light brown head - gorgeous. Dry nutty floral/herbal aroma, light alcohol - splendid. Taste follows, not as nutty, a bit lactic-sour, a tad more alcohol presence, but not sweet - very classy. Average body, airy, astringent, medium-long bitter/burnt malt finish ----- a very, very nice porter.

750 ml bottle, LCBO, cellar, tulip. Dark brown-black, small mocha head. Deep, rich, chocolate, mild coffee, molasses, beautiful. Medium full body, soft effervescence. More rich sweet chocolate and black coffee, a touch fruity and smoky, molasses, beautiful; lightly sweet with good bitterness and a black coffee and slightly ashen finish.

750 ml bottle purchased at the LCBO in Rideau and King Edward (Ottawa) on May 13, 2012. Black, medium head. Aroma of caramel chocolate, some notes of alcohol. Taste of burnt coffee, notes of bitter cocoa and licorice, dry and bitter coffee. It is robust enough!

750ml bottle, cap was waxed. Very dark, sliver of red around the edge, head is big and chocolate brown. Aroma is chocolate malt and a touch of espresso. Taste is sweet chocolate malt with some roasty bitterness. Body is a little thick and syrupy, but full.

A good complex porter, big beer. Very roasty, with thick mouthfeel, and decent hop flavour. More bitter than 40 ibu would indicate. Black as night, a sipper. Very drinkable, roasty aroma.

Sampled at the GCBF. Very dark. Nose, to me, is more similar to an imperial stout than a regular porter. Nose of tobacco, mouth of mint (yes), tobacco, coffee. This is even thicker than many imperial stouts I’ve tried.
