3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Trade from Sammy- An assertive nose of resin, roasted malts and suggestions of bitter coffee. A handsome espresso hued foamy head sits atop an almost black pour providing abuntant lacing. The palate is overall bitter - malt driven up front giving way to a hoppy finish and aftertaste. Burnt malts, black coffee, while resin flavors round out the taste. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, how can you not like a a beer with humorous art work and labeling?

473ml can. Pours nearly black with a one finger, tan head that sticks around forever and laces well. Aroma has well blended notes of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, citrus, pine, and resin. Yum. Taste is a strong bitter with notes of caramel, pine, resin, milk and bitter chocolate, and a drawn out bitter aftertaste. Very mild alcohol taste. Well hidden. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Creamy texture in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall lots of flavour. Caramel, pine, resin, milk and bitter chocolate. Would get again.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Brothers Beer Bistro (Ottawa, ON). Opaque black body with a thin beige creamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, vanilla, and chocolate hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Its well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries chocolate, roasty, and vineous notes. Ends with a long, warming, bittersweet finish. Enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tall boy from brewery. Pours black as coal with head the colour of espresso foam that leaves a mess of lacing. Smell is all grapefruit and sweet mango. Creamy mouthfeel but well carbonated. Sweet, slightly toasted malt balanced with citrus, and a bitter finish with some booze warming. Some cocoa/coffee aftertaste notes arise after the bitterness fades. Great stuff.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Saturday night tall boy pour is blacker than Tim Hudak’s heart with a plump burnt sugar cap. Aroma is rich & hoppy. Man, this brew goes down smooth. Quite surprising seeing that it clocks in at 10%. A fantastic take on the style. Grabbed these cans from the brewery after a disastrous drive from Leslieville. Luckily this brew is worth it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Can. Frothy light caramel colour with a black colour. First thing that pops out of the glass is hops, has an almost cannabis like quality to me, and fresh pine cones. After it opens up a bit there is some caramel notes but this is one hopppy brew. Bitter finish, big body and slightly warming with a long hoppy finish. A real treat!!
