(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto, June 2012) Poured a pale slightly hazy gold with a cream head that left lacing behind. Interesting aroma, like being in a shack where herbs were being dried over a charcoal bed. Some cardamom and sage coming through, the smoke was subtle but seemed to accentuate the herbs. Also a mild yeasty citrus peeking through the stronger smells. On the palate, the first few sips had light smoke coupled with slightly sweet malts, yeast funk and herbs - the rosemary coming through more here, with some cardamom spice. The finish was lightly bitter and spicy. As the beer warmed, the smoked herbs increased in prominence and threatened to become a bit overbearing. Body medium, soft carb. This was a interesting hybrid style and very well-made with unique flavours. I could probably go for a smaller portion though.

[4429-20120521] Tap. Mildly smoky yeast aroma. Slightly hazy, orange body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Slightly smoky citrus yeast flavour. Medium body. Good. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

2012-05-21. Lightly hazy, golden body with a modest-off white head and lace. 3+ Flavour is interesting, mild smoke, nice saison core, light pale malt, mild bitterness underneath. Modest aroma, light smoke, mild saison character - fruit, light spice. Smooth average bodied palate, decent amount of carbonation. 3+ The smoke grows as the glass goes on but remains tolerable. Not likely to become part of my regular rotation, but I would drink it again and given my bias against smoke beers that says something. Surprisingly drinkable. UPDATED: MAY 23, 2012 This is a beer that was trying to be a smoke, through English smoked malts, an aggressive saison, peppercorns and sage, and a hoppy beer with a hoppy finish. I would have liked it to be truer to a smoked. It grew on me and I sipped through it.

Pale golden pour with a tight white head. The aroma is very spicy with a lot of cardamom and some clove as well. Very subtle smoke over a light malt base. The yeast is quite expressive with a little bit of perfume and spice. The smoke intensifies as it warms up. Started out odd but I kind of like it n
