mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 15, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown-caramel body with a small creamy white head. Aroma of nutty almond comes through and toasted bread.
Flavour is a bit soapy, nutty, notes of almond and coffee-type bitterness. Brightly carbonated. Toasty finish. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Sep 20, 2007 Sample from 341 ml bottle. Chocolate brown colour with a fizzy tan head. Caramel and light chocolate aroma. Chocolate, light bread, and lightly grainy flavour. Light bodied, fizzy mouthfeel. Average. tomthompson89 (1459), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 27, 2007 is definatly dark, not much carbonation, toasted dark malts, kinda sweet , kinda thin but it is a lager. mephisto (1144), Taiwan Jul 29, 2007 draft at west 50. dark amber with thin white head, this brew has nutty aroma and sweet caramel flavor. medium bodied. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jul 6, 2007 Well this isnt anything special, Mind you, how special can a dark lager be? Even though its dark, people. its still a lager!!! Boring. The only thing this beer has going for it is on top of all the boring grainy, bready, crappy macro tasting lagerness, there is a SLIGHT caramel notes to it. Other than that, pass on this one. chainman (103), Ontario, Canada Jun 19, 2007 Bottle Dark lagers...why, oh why, do you exist? If someone is going to drink a dark, they will go for an ale, which has character. I have yet to drink a dark lager that was anything more than passable. In the interest of trying everything I can, I gave this one a shot. Absolutely nothing impressive, especially following a bottle of Amsterdam Nut Brown. Has some malt character, but an utter lack of anything interesting just leaves this sweet, syrupy mess flat and boring. It seems like they didn’t want to try anything different, they just got the "Make Your Own Dark Lager" box and followed the directions and, yes, it’s a lager, and yes, it’s dark. They could at least try hopping it more, maybe make a strong dark lager with some actual character. As it was, this was as exciting as pancake mix. Slacks (481), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Mar 4, 2007 Draught @ West 50, Mississauga, ON: Someone near me got this, I’d never known it was a dark lager. Arrived a dark brown, hints of black and red depending how the light hits it. Light layer of head, but that may be the cleaning of the glasses, since it had been suspect earlier in the night. Aroma is relatively non-existent, perhaps some sugar and roast elements that are somewhat hard to pick up. The flavour is entirely uneventful, almost like a pale lager trapped in a dark body. It’s boring, it’s uninspiring, no character to call its own. Disappointing all around. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada Feb 11, 2007 This dark lager had very little aroma - almost standard lager aroma. The body was also thin and gassy and almost nothing was happening in the palate. Avoid this beer.
