HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2006 Updated: Aug 20, 2006Bottle (341ml). At BeerBistro, 2006 Golden Tap Awards. Well it looks okay, bubbly, reddish-black with a small beige head. Sweet candy toasty malt aroma, like weak soda fountain syrup, aggressively sweet, the roast character is quite nonspecific. Taste is like cola, only vaguely roasty, ehhh. Mouthfeel is like a slightly thick cola too - really nothing happening here, it’s just a f’in generic lager tarted up with dark malt, but not really any tastier. jingajinga (12), USA Aug 5, 2006 Tried it at Catch 22 - It wasn’t as bad as people where rating it. Full flavour - mrked malt notes - unbalanced but decent. JohnBarleycorn (390), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 27, 2006 Translucent black with a touch of burgundy/brown around the edges. Vapid, cappuccino-coloured head quickly dissipates. Quite subdued in both aroma and flavour, which is surprising given the ostentatious appearance: some round maltiness, a tiny hint of chocolate...and that’s about it. Almost zero bitterness, but also zero undesirable flavour accents. An okay beer with a black-coloured gimmick.
Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2006 On tap - Lame stuff. Looks decent, but no real aroma and a thin overcarbonated feel with almost no flavour other than a hint of sweetness.
Pass. TheRack (1), Canada does not count Apr 25, 2006 Me Likey!!
Mochachino Head, nice dark amber colour, easy drink’n and a good snap of Alcohol that makes me want to lose my panties and kick back!
Who cares if it’s not Rheinheitsgebot compliant? Purity is for Virgins!
Forget malted Barley! I’m more interested in sowing my Wild Oats!
Rack Out! Iknowgreatbeer (5), Newmarket, Ontario, Canada does not count Mar 24, 2006 Bottle - looked good in the glass and ringed well. Although I am not a great fan Darks, I was surprised at the drinkability of Black Jack. Found the body to be medium and the aftertaste was not objectionable. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Feb 8, 2006 (Bottle) Pours a medium, tan head with a medium carbonated deep brown body. Nose of smoked caramel and porter. Flavours of sweet caramel malt, molasses, roasted almonds and biscuit. Texture is thin and fizzy. Not to my liking... Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Feb 5, 2006 Overcarbonated schwarz, dark clear browb, with a quickly collapsing head. Aroma of caramel and plums, not unpleasant. In mouth, rather sweet malt, with some smoked points in final, but rather thin and boring....not impressive, but not bad. Bottle from Mike H.
