3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pretty solid Pale Ale. At first, right out of the fridge it tasted like those pine tree air fresheners. After getting to a better temperature the citrus came through, although I’m still getting some pine-y aromas. Still, good hops without a pile of complexity which is probably what it’s supposed to deliver. Good stuff overall.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2012 Crispy clean taste, pours a pale yellow, very hoppy smell and a hoppy taste, pretty citrusy, you can really taste the cascade come through and it has a good finish. Good offering
Rerate: cask version the canculkhead or some like that was awesome, the flavour was really smooth and lots of hoppiness, really nice

lovely hop aroma. light to medium hop flavour with citrus, mostly lemon. medium bitterness in the finish. easily my favourite Canadian APA. Love seeing these Canadian breweries come through with a great beer like this.

Pours golden/copper with a puffy frothy 2 finger head. Big aroma of Pine, Mango - there’s some caramel malt in there too but the Hops dominate this one. Bitter hops in the taste, pine needles, caramel malt and a bit of a woody quality to it. A bit more balanced than the aroma. Fairly lively carbonation here, though there should be some more body to it. Those minor complaints aside, this is a fairly easy drinker and a good representation of an APA. On cask I gave it 3.9.

It’s now in cans. This is a well hopped beer with smooth aftertaste. The aroma is relatively mild for a pale ale, but the hops make a strong impression on the tongue.

Hazy golden-amber pour. The aroma is awesome - loads of fresh prickly pine cone and orange/tangerine citrus. Very tropical with a little bit of lightly minerally bitterness. The beer has hops in abundance. Moderate bitterness though. Very lean palate with a lovely bit of peppery bite. Crisp and refreshing with loads of fresh piny hoppiness. There is a bit of zestiness at I find quote appealing in here. The more I have from these guys, the more I like them. Bitterness becomes more assertive as you get through the glass. Nice pint.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled sample. Clear pale orange in colour with fairly strong carbonation. Aromas are a mix of pale and crystal malt, along with some fresh cut wood and faint sweet orange. Wood and caramel elements come through strongest in the mouth, but the leafy citric hops are still in play (albeit in qute a gentle way). Medium bodied with a bit of woody bitterness. A bit tame, but still pretty drinkable.

Since the revamp of this beer(Late 2010 early 2011) wow. One of the best hoppy beers currently available in Ontario. Pour deep golden copper with big head and great lacing. Big dry citrus hopped aroma with caramel and a nice balancing malt sweetness. Taste citrus hops, caramel, malt, toffee, and grapefruit. MF is thick chewy and reasonably carbonated. There is a super faint butter taste which is almost exusable and my only tiny gripe with this great Ont brew. Good one guys cheers!

T - Sweet, followed by sour and bitter citrus finish
P - Oily, with ample soft carbonation
O - A good complex beer, but almost too much going on.

Another bomber from Great Lakes Brewing, and a Canadian tribute for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Pours a rich golden colour with an off-white head that is fluffy, with decent retention and dry bubbly lacing. Great grain malt scent (I recognize the same malt found in Steam Whistle and some other pils) at first, and then, the hop appears. An awesome pairing of both. Silky smooth mouthfeel with a little stick in the end. Wicked bitterness the whole way which rules my mouth. Nice grain aftertaste with the hop always present. I really enjoy this brew and will buy some more for the Olympics. A superb pale ale. Great Lakes seems to be impressing more and more, every time they release a new offering.
