COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been said that “Canada is the only country in the world that knows how to live without an identity.” This beer doesn’t help much with that crisis. From the fiercely irresponsible stereotypical image on the front of the can to the distinctly American style of the beer inside it – we’ve really made a mess of things. What have we done? Sorry.

(473mL can from LCBO) Poured cool, a slightly hazy medium gold with a rocky white head that faded quickly. Aroma citrus-dominated, some grapefruit in particular, faint malt. Flavour again hoppy, a little malty sweetness at first but strongly grapefruit pith, citrus, quenching and a little acidic. Moderate bitterness coming in, finishes tinny and dry. Body fairly lightweight, high soda-pop carbonation, Not too complex but a very refreshing summer pale ale.

Although the aroma dissapetes quickly, a nice boost of resin. Not too bitter, but ok. Medium bodied. I would have liked it to be more aggressive.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2013 Can I got from my beloved Netty who managed it to get it from Canada. Many thanks! Mwaaah, mwaaah! This pale ale is great! it has a nice hoppy and floral aroma, a bitter hoppy and refreshing taste with a bitter hoppy long lasting finish. Overall very hoppy, drinkable. anytime again!

Pours clear medium gold with two fingers of fluffy white head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, patchy lacing (4/5). Nose is bright citrus and mango, light resin and pine, with a light caramel and bready malt background (8/10). Taste is low sweetness and moderate to strong citrusy bitter, building pepperiness (8/10). Light to medium body, moderate to low sustained carbonation, lingering bitter finish (5/5). Another light(er), easy-drinking APA/IPA. Lighter and without the slight harshness of, for example, My Bitter Wife - but also not a DIPA, and with the associated significantly lower ABV. Loads of juicy, citrusy hops make this a very enjoyable and well-behaved thirst quencher. Well worth the cognitive dissonance detailed on the back of the can - a “fiercely irresponsible stereotypical image” on the can, but a “distinctly American style” of beer inside it. I’ll deal with my national identity crisis while I enjoy the beer. Sorry. (17/20)

Since the revamp of this beer(Late 2010 early 2011) wow. One of the best hoppy beers currently available in Ontario. Pour deep golden copper with big head and great lacing. Big dry citrus hopped aroma with caramel and a nice balancing malt sweetness. Taste citrus hops, caramel, malt, toffee, and grapefruit. MF is thick chewy and reasonably carbonated. There is a super faint butter taste which is almost exusable and my only tiny gripe with this great Ont brew. Good one guys cheers!

On tap at C’est What - GLB announced this one as "Canuck Pale Ale" but it seems that was a name that was still in development, as the official GLB tap handle clearly read "Crazy Canuck Pale Ale". Cuhhhh-raaaayyy-zeeee! Anyway, the beer came a clear light bronze colour with a brilliant white head that lasted throughout most of the glass and left some intricate lacing. Really beautiful fresh Cascade aroma, fruity, citrusy, piney. Loverly, though a bit one-dimensional. As long as that dimension is hops, though, s’all good. Flavour much the same, those Cascades are definitely on show, but there’s a hint of malt to make it a touch more balanced. Nice, long bitter finish. CCPA reminds me a bit of a slightly less malty Hop Addict from County Durham. Well done Great Lakes - this one is up there with the Pumpkin as my favourite of their offerings. REALLY looking forward to the bottles.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 Original rating. June 5, 2011. Aroma : 8 / Appearance : 4 / Taste : 8 / Palate : 4 / Overall : 17 473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is big on resinous hops, herbal and floral notes, pink grapefruit juice, fain caramel. Smells great. Faint sweetness, with initial pine, faint caramel notes, and a finish that is all grapefruit. I honestly I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a beer with such heavy grapefruit notes. A lighter bodied ale that is very easy drinking. Thumbs up! Well done Great Lakes. You’re slowly becoming one of the best breweries in Ontario. Re-rated April 28, 2013 I felt it was time to re-rate this, because well, nothing has ever been quite as good as that first batch. It still looks pretty good. Hazy honey tone with an off-white head. Still smells delicious. BIG tropical fruit, and citrus with some resinous notes and caramel. The taste however is nothing like it used to be. Still light bodied, with nice fruity notes up front that disappear quickly and turn into a lot of minerality, and slightly harsh metallic hops, with more citrus in the finish. Everything that used to make this beer great seems to be hiding behind that strong hit of mineral heavy hops. It’s not bad by any means, but it used to be excellent. Sniff, sniff.
