COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our version of a west coast pale ale pushes the boundaries much like the crazy canucks of the past. Weíve brewed it for those who enjoy adventure and a departure from the ordinary. The result is a wildly hoppy aroma and lingering bitterness complemented by a soft bready malt flavour.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2012 Tall can. Golden amber with white frothy head, consistent lacing. Strong beautiful aroma of centennials: slightly green, lots of citrus. Medium-bodied. Smooth balance of caramel malt against strong hops. Long, lovely, dry bitter finish. Flying Monkeys Smashbomb IPA had been my favourite Ontario beer until this -- although today was a stressful day and maybe this beer was just in the right place (my hand) at the right time (immediately). *UPDATE: Was not quite as good the next few times. Smashbomb still represents for me the Ontario high water mark in hoppy pale ales.

REALLY enjoyed this one. Maybe simplistic, but looked and tasted like a wheatbeer crossed with the hoppy IPA. Malty and spicy at first, but then just enough tartness to clean your palate. Not too heavy and not bloaty aftertaste.

On tap at Cíest What - GLB announced this one as "Canuck Pale Ale" but it seems that was a name that was still in development, as the official GLB tap handle clearly read "Crazy Canuck Pale Ale". Cuhhhh-raaaayyy-zeeee! Anyway, the beer came a clear light bronze colour with a brilliant white head that lasted throughout most of the glass and left some intricate lacing. Really beautiful fresh Cascade aroma, fruity, citrusy, piney. Loverly, though a bit one-dimensional. As long as that dimension is hops, though, síall good. Flavour much the same, those Cascades are definitely on show, but thereís a hint of malt to make it a touch more balanced. Nice, long bitter finish. CCPA reminds me a bit of a slightly less malty Hop Addict from County Durham. Well done Great Lakes - this one is up there with the Pumpkin as my favourite of their offerings. REALLY looking forward to the bottles.

650mL bomber from the likbo. Pours a nice copperish gold, paler than I was expecting. Large, rocky white froth. Aroma is mild but nice, some good hops upfront with non-typical Ontario malts backing them up. The flavour I actually find quite pleasing, lots of hoppyness upfront with some bitterness, descending into some mild but tasty biscuity toffee malt notes. Very tasty, reminds me of Sgt. Majorís when itís on. Some minor butter like others have mentioned but itís honestly so subtle and drowned out by the good aspects I can hardly see how it could be considered a major flaw. This is probably my favourite GL brew Iíve had to date and I will definitely purchase more, because itís so tasty but also to support a micro brewer while f***ing Molsonís has its usual stiffling strangle hold on the Olympics. Very good effort, I must have a particularly good bottle since I donít completely comprehend the mediocre over-all rating, but to each their own as the saying goes. Not really a west-coast pale ale so complaints against the advertising are legitimate. On itís own itís a solid beer so I hope they just adjust the blurb on what itís ísupposedí to be.

From the can. Grew on me, but too much for 90% of the people I encourage to try, may be why itís dropped to $2.25/can at the LCBO. Pretty refreshing, excellent break from the other íregularí beers. Hops really clean the palate. Like this stuff man.

The can is rather unremarkable visually, and so Iíd never expected much from this. Kept avoiding it at LCBO. That it has become my standard beer says a lot. Great balance between malt and hops (thereís plenty of hops). Very easy to drink but stimulating all the same. Feels very well crafted. This and Tankhouse are the 2 Toronto beers Iím always in the mood for - but this one comes in 475mL size, which is preferable.

On tap at Wrvst. Pours a cloudy dark orange with a thick white head. Aroma of floral hops, light fruit, spices. Flavor of bitter hops, bready malt, and spices (hint of clove, allspice, and possibly rosemary) with citrus and garlicky hops in the finish. Very interesting spicy IPA. 7/4/8/4/15 [3.8/5]

Diolch JoeMcPhee. Golden copper with a grand frohg whitr head. Grapefruit hop aroma. Lovely refreshing brew. Crisp hop, fruit goodness. Not to in your face, but rather subtle, delicate and very enjoyable. As crazy as Canada gets, but very nice indeed.
