COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Devil Made Me Brew It! Brewed for 66.6 minutes with 666kg of malt and 6.6kg of hops, Devil’s Pale Ale is a robust ale weighing in at 6.6% alcohol (notice a theme yet?). Darker than traditional pale ales, Devil’s Pale Ale has an unmistakable hoppiness both in aroma and taste, balanced by a selection of 6 choice malts.

473 ml can courtesy of matt7215. Pours a dark brown with thin, off-white head. Aroma is roasty malt. Flavor is roasty malt with nut and a hint of coffee. Er. excuse me, this is not an APA. This is a brown ale. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner than I would want from a brown. It isn’t a Pale Ale. Not a bad beer but not a pale ale and only an OK brown.

I’ve had some not-so-great beer at Project X so often disregard Great Lakes - this was a pleasant surprise, a very drinkable American IPA. Not super hoppy, nice balance. AROMA - lightly citrus hoppy, not overwhelming APPEARANCE - pours darker than other in it’s category, a darkish amber. Very clear, solid whitish head that doesn’t remain. Good lacing. TASTE - medium bitter taste, hoppiness is not overwhelming and well balanced with the malt. doesn’t twist up your tongue like a hop bomb. PALATE average carbonation, medium bodied, solid bitter aftertaste. OVERALL Very nice, I would happily drink this anytime.

473ml can from LCBO. Pours an amber colour with a nice solid head. Lots of hops. Was pleasantly surprise with this one.

This may have started as a novelty but I guess the heavens aligned and they turned out with a pretty good drink. I plan to buy more of this in the future. Yeah it doesn’t "fit" as a pale ale, but what is it then? If it were labelled a strong ale people would be saying it was too weak... these names are to help guide us, not to force brewers to fit themselves into little pegs.

(473mL can from LCBO) Poured cool, a clear red-brown with an inch of rocky tan head. Aroma of hops, pine with a bit of grapefruit rind, and faint toffee malt peeking through. Flavour again hops-forward, initially a bit of juicy citrus cutting the toffee malt, followed up by grass and resiny pine drying the beer out and finishing with an earthy note. Quite bitter overall and finishes completely try with a bit of metallic tang. Mouthfeel is fairly light, soda-pop carbonation. A good hopped darker ’pale’ ale.

Can from brewery. Hazy brown pour. Nice fruity hop aroma. Taste is mostly hops, with some minerals. Somewhat thin bodied. Some malt presence would’ve improved it, but it was still enjoyable.

Coppery red with a thick creamy head. Smells of citrus hops - very appealing presentation here. Bitter with a burnt copper aftertaste. Leaves a bitter oily residue on the tongue that makes me want more. Very good.

Sample from can at the Strange Brew Tasting on 02/18/2012. Reddish-brown in color with a medium fluffy off-white head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Floral hops and sweet malt aroma. Medium body with flavors of grassy and herbal hops, grainy malt and a bit of fruit. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can shared by a friend. Clear amber pour with a thick beige head. Malty and sweet nose with toffee notes along with piney and grassy hops. Malty and caramelly flavor with an earthy hop finish.

Loved this beer. Very complex. Pours amber withbig poofy head which thins out but lasts. Hoppy nose at first, pine cones and needles on the palate. As it sits, some warm spices come through, along with tobacco and biscuits. A hint of sweet caramel as well. Awesome beer.

Nice solid head and a decent dark brown, near-black body. Lots of fresh hops on the nose, zero-minute I do believe, making this one a good smell for shure. Flavour is more hops, very floral in that respect, with a sharp citrusy hop finish. Notice the hops yet? I’d prefer a little bit more malt in the mix, it’s lacking complexity but darned drinkable to be ensured opun. Je pense.
