COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Devil Made Me Brew It! Brewed for 66.6 minutes with 666kg of malt and 6.6kg of hops, Devil’s Pale Ale is a robust ale weighing in at 6.6% alcohol (notice a theme yet?). Darker than traditional pale ales, Devil’s Pale Ale has an unmistakable hoppiness both in aroma and taste, balanced by a selection of 6 choice malts.

Quite dark for a pale, but very good. This can is aged a bit so the hops may have died down which is making it more agreeable for me personally. The hops do become more prevalent as the glass warms up. Very foamy head which gives way to a nice creamy mouthfeel. Nice balance.

Ummmmmm......Pale Ale? I don’t think I need to reread the definition of pale to understand that this ain’t pale. That being said, I have never been one for convention and this beer certainly isn’t either. It’s gorgeous in all of its dark, devilish glory, a ruby brown with a wonderful beige head. The smell is fantastic! Along with citrus, floral, mildly piney hops and caramel there are exciting notes of plums, vanilla, raisins, coffee and nuts. The taste is the same but also brings with it some light, smooth roasted malt flavour. Intensely complex yet remarkably drinkable, a medium body with mid-soft carbonation and a wee bit of oiliness. My new favourite remarkable "regular" beer. Heaven be damned.

Fresh can at Porterhouse Dublin (only 6 weeks old). Really deep copper pour, almost like a brown ale, dirty white head. Good pine, caramel, wood, and grapefruit pith on the nose. Big pine resin and thick caramalt upon tasting, rough pine and grapefruit bitterness, some woody notes and earthier spices in there. Bitter finish, bit abrasive. Medium body; if you like malt forward pale ales this could be a top one for you. Not to my taste, but enjoyable nevertheless.

Can. Pours clear hazel, large puffy tan head, dissipates slowly, nice clumpy lacing. Aroma is citrus, pine, grapefruit, roasty malts, bread, perhaps a note of coffee. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, pine, grapefruit, toasted bread, a note of toffee. Medium body, high carbonation. Nice brown IPA.

Pour is dark amber with a thick off white head. Nose is fruity with apricot and grapefruit. Good amount of malt sweetness. Taste is lots of malts that leave a hint of nutty chocolate and caramel in the mouth. Medium long lasting resinous hop bitterness. Some grapefruit notes too. Tasty pale ale!

Very dark and malty for a pale ale, almost has a hoppy brown feel. i find that the malt over powered the hops, interesting brew but not for me.

This beer reminds me of a tamer version of Pit Caribou’s American Brown Ale (which itself is a slightly tamer version of the RastafaYan from Noire et Blanche). It pours awful purdy, though I don’t know why it’s called a pale ale; it could pass for a porter, in a dark bar. Nose is pine and floral hops with some roasted notes in the background. Taste is caramel, coffee, roasted grain, a hint of liquorice, with nice floral and grapefruit hop nots, ending in a dry pine and bitter coffee finish. There’s something about this beer’s flavour profile that I really, really enjoy, however I will say both the hop and malt profile are a touch understated. This beer has a lot of great stuff going on, but none of it will knock your socks off. Still, I keep going back to it again and again - and at half the price of PC’s ABA, it’s definitely more than half the beer, in terms of quality.

473ml can from El Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. @home 05-07-2014.
BBD: Oct 13.
In short: a harsh dark ale.
Pours dark mahogany copper ??? with frothy off white head. Long head retention, some nice lacing. Maty, caramel, roasty and some alcoholic aromas. Medium body, high carbonation, crispy texture. Taste is unbalanced, high alcohols in there, warming mouthfeel, roasty, caramel. Not at its prime.

2014/07/13 - Pours a clear, dark amber/mahogany colour with a thick, foamy, off white head that lingers. Aroma is pine, citrus, roasted nuts and caramel. Taste is pine, coffee roast, caramel and citrus. Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation and a bitter citrus and roast finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep copper, almost black with a large off white head. Aroma notes include rich toasted malts, liquorice, and spice. Tasting notes include caramels, and toffee malts. Not as malty as better APA’s, but not bad. Palate is medium, and some bitterness lingers. Not bad!
