markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Dec 31, 2007 50 cl can, Shelburne. Dark brown colour, thick foamy head. Strong but balanced malt and hop aroma. Sweet caramel malt flavor, almost shandy like, with bitter finish under all the sweetness. Nice for one but wouldn’t want to drink too many! dangermoose (9), Alberta, Canada does not count Dec 22, 2007 Pours dark brown like a porter with two fingers of eggshell coloured head that dissipates quickly. Very little carbonation. Aroma has notes of black licorice and some spices. Initially there are some spring tastes like fresh cut grass. This opens up into a pleasant hoppy bitterness that persists for a while. paco (204), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Dec 16, 2007 Can from trade with Matt7215. Half inch white head that recedes quickly. Dark on top, pale on the bottom. No bubbles. Aromas of sweet caramel and malt. Mild alcohol smell. Hoppy bitter taste. Well balanced, medium body. Too bad this is canned, I’d love a bottle or a pint of this one. JohnBarleycorn (390), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 14, 2007 Can. Chestnut appearance and excellent head-retention for a canned beer. Aromas of orange custard, milk chocolate, dark malt and the faintest touch of coffee. Hefty palate offers a creamy flush of malt. Dark chocolate flavour evolves to bitter coffee towards the finish, with a nutty/buttery quality surviving throughout. Good to very good. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Dec 7, 2007 Dark burgundy-amber colour. Aroma of canned peaches, some caramel and tobacco. Light body. Some toffee notes, light smoke and earth. Esters of pear, golden plum. Interesting interpretation is nothing like a pale ale, but isn’t all that bad as a beer. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Dec 7, 2007 Killer can. Pours with little to no head, but much darker than expected for a beer billed as a pale ale. Deep reddish-brown, and not much in the looks department. Aroma of candy sugar and malt: a sweet array of smells. Nice mouthfeel, soft and silky. An odd balance of flavors. Enough hop bite but thins out considerably at the end. Prune sweetness. Earthy, with some wholemeal bread notes like pumpernickel. crushinat0r (227), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 28, 2007 Dark brown in colour, very odd for a pale ale. Minimal lacing head. Smells a little nutty and malty. The taste is a little too metallic for my liking. Refreshing though with a nice roasted coffee aftertaste. Strange for a pale ale. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Nov 25, 2007 473 ml can courtesy of matt7215. Pours a dark brown with thin, off-white head. Aroma is roasty malt. Flavor is roasty malt with nut and a hint of coffee. Er. excuse me, this is not an APA. This is a brown ale. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner than I would want from a brown. It isn’t a Pale Ale. Not a bad beer but not a pale ale and only an OK brown.
