Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Nov 19, 2007 A dark amber with brown hues and a thick light moka head. Aroma is very nutty, caramel, fudge, very enticing. In mouth, a bit too much in your faces, but good nutty malt, with sweet coffee moka, and some burned toast bitterness. None of the hops expected, i guess its covered by the malts. A good brown ale, but this isnt an APA. However, still a good beer. Bought at LCBO. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Nov 11, 2007 473ml can from matt7215. Pours an indian red colour, head is tight and creamy, about a finger and a half in height. Aroma is malty with a little nut and caramel, faint leafy hops. The beer starts with caramel/toffee malt, moderate sweetness, aftertaste is tofeeish with a little earthy and toasty malt and some moderate but noticable herbal hop bitterness. More like an amber ale, pretty drinkable. aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada Oct 29, 2007 Appearance: Russet with large off-white head.
Aroma: Toffee, bread crusts, light floral hop aroma but mostly malty.
Flavour: Burnt toast, roasted malt and malty sweet with a medium bitterness. Tastes oxidized.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied and fizzy.
Overall: A medium hopped typical "brewpub amber" with a pinch more roasted barley. Finishes toasty and buttery with a low floral hop flavour. Tessic (439), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Oct 29, 2007 This pale ale was a very dark orange colour with a nice white foamy head. To the nose you could smell scents of hopps, sweet malt and ripe fruit just to name a few. First taste was very smooth and malty with a hoppy finish and a somewhat bitter palate. A nice IPA. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 29, 2007 Can - 500ml. Pours a dark copper body with low carbonation and a thin beige foamy head. Its malty aroma carries strong fruity and caramel hints. Malty/hoppy taste is well balanced, but lacks some complexity. It ends with a decent bittersweet finish. Interesting. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 29, 2007 Thanks to Tupalev. Toasty malt, light chocolate, fruity hops are pretty restrained. Flavor is sweet malt, slight caramel, meladonin, a hint of hops to round it out. Very nice mouthfeel. bitter finish. yarry (370), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Oct 27, 2007 473ml can, 6% a/v
Pours a dark brown colour with a nice tan head, some lacing on the glass. Smells malty, and hoppy with a nice earth base. The taste is malt, chocolate, caramel, and roasted grain with a very nice hop balance. The mouthfeel is very full and the aftertaste very complex.
I thought the idea of 666kg of malt, 6.66kg hops, etc etc, would make for a good gimmick but possibly limit the beer, in fact it makes for a very nice, complex and delicious recipe. JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Oct 27, 2007 Whoever added this as an APA was painfully off target. It says right in the description: "Reminiscent of early English Pale Ales", and if you know anything about EPA’s you know that they’re dark, not pale. Anyways, on to the beer. Pours a dark burgundy/brown, with a huge beige head. The aroma is a mix of the 6 malt varieties blended into one, along with some earthiness and a touch of hops. It smells pretty nice actually, there’s definitely some pils malt in there that I’m detecting. The taste is again, huge cluster of malts, toffee, caramel, bread, coffee, pretty much all the basics. There is a small hop presence in there, and it does have sort of a pale alelish taste to it. The mouth-feel is fuller because of all the malts, and the earthiness is actually really refreshing tasting. It’s a neat gag, and I like barley malts, therefore this is a good beer, you just have to know and appreciate the differences in pale ale types. There’s really nothing wrong with this beer. And it was also my 166th beer rated, oooooooooooo creepy.....not really, but hey it’s a mildly cool point to make.
