2011-10-08. Black body with a nice tan head. 4+ Rich aroma has a dark malt character, light alcohol, muted roast. 7+ Flavour is similar, rich dark malt, mild alcohol, muted roast and hoppy bitterness in the background. Rich full bodied palate, lightly carbonated. Very nice. The hop character suggests that this may have had more prominent hop and roast character when fresh, but I think the mild mellowing with age suits my own tastes more. A very nice imperial stout! January 2011 Bottle aged about 9 months, from the brewery, Toronto.

December 27, 2010 - on draught at Volo. As Kournikova’s Choice Russian Imperial Stout. Thick black pour with a solid lasting dark brown head. Aroma is deep roast, rich coffee and burnt nutshell, hints of motor oil and oil paint, anise and alcohol. Taste follows, quite strong, complex, the anise is really vanilla - dry, oily, reasonably balanced, but big. Average body, slick and weakly carbonated, fairly long finish, really coats the palate with oily roast malt - well done.

650 ml Project X bottle from brewery. Pours deep black in colour, big frothy. coke-like head. Leaves lots of fine, golden shiny tan coloured lacing. Aroma is primarily bitter roasted malt. Tatse is warming, roasted malt, sweet, molasses. Alcohol is well hidden, very drinkable for the style.

Pint at GLB Volo event. Pours black with a thick mocha head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, hops, and dried fruit. Taste is syrupy sweet, coffee, chocolate, pine, light spice. It tastes a little thin but the alcohol is well worked in. Feels a little unrefined for my tastes...but still quite good.

Aroma straight clean approach to Imperial Stout. Dominant dark malts with roast.7+
Appearance dark brown , some haze. Lighter top. 3+
Flavor and Palate : medium full bodied. Good malt base , proper noted roast. Good yet I found alcohol dryness bit too harsh.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 thb (485) - Alberta, CANADA - MAR 12, 2011
"Drinkable", "restrained" and "imperial stout" don’t usually go together. This would seem to be an exception. It pours as intimidatingly black as you’d expect with just the slightest sign of (brown) bubbles on top. Headline flavours are roast, chocolate, black cherry. Roasty, coffee-y finish. Thin for the style. I sometimes say "the alcohol was hidden", but here it was REALLY hidden. Dulls the flavour a bit but drinkable it is.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JB84 (649) - Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 1, 2011
Pour black with a big brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate milk powder (nesquik), hops, vanilla, and raisin. Taste very sweet, fake chocolate, cocoa, very bitter, pine, molasses, wood, and plant like taste. MF Surprisingly thin with minimal carb. Overall a decent one off brew that needs some work.
