COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been said that a great sorcerer with a single magical vanilla bean can infuse the intense depth of flavour and aroma that is found in this ale.
Unfortunately, we are hideously short of such wizards at Great Lakes so instead we simply used 1001 vanilla beans.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2014 RE-RATE - mmediate vanilla flavors that blend in well and a hint of richness from either the bourbon or more likely the dark toffeeish malts. No unbalanced astringency // ORIG RATE. Wish there were points for a silly title! Cask at Only. Great dark brown look with dark tan head, faint nose of dark fruit, taste is surprisingly bitter - thin hop bite. Struggling to detect toffee, chocolate... is there any vanilla here? All the hinted-at mellow richness seems clobbered and defeated by the weird almost metallic astringency. Excessively bitter hop palate - why? = 3.2

650ml bottle. Pours dark chestnut brown with a thin tan head. The nose is heavy in very roasty dark malt notes, vanilla, light caramel, Tootsie Roll, and light butter. Medium sweet with coffee notes, vanilla, a note that makes me think "dust", mineral hop bitterness, light fruity notes, and nice dry coffee notes in the finish. The pieces don’t quite seem to integrate well, but it’s decent. It’s also becoming very apparent I don’t like vanilla in beer. Boo-ooo vanilla.

650ml Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a deep brown with a generous tan head. Nose is up front vanilla with coffee and chocolate. Roasted malts with a gentle vanilla sweetness to start with chocolate bitterness producing a dry finish. Vanilla and bourbon come out more as it warms. Medium slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Nice on a cold winter day.

2014/02/18 - Pours an almost black cola colour with a two finger, creamy, khaki head that leaves ample lacing. Aroma is vanilla, roasted coffee, cocoa and subtle bourbon. Taste is similar to nose; mildly sweet chocolate, subtle bourbon, roasted coffee, mild peat and loads of vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium and slightly sticky, with smooth carbonation and and sweet, drying finish. Well balanced. Another impressive Tank Ten beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

all bourbon and barrel smell from bottle. Lots of vanilla bean from glass. 3 finger head black with a redpurple little tad at bottom of glass. Easy drinkability. heavy bodied. Lots of vanilla, bourbone & barrel. The porter is watery and it takes a long time till I taste some chocolate & roastedness. It’s heavily vanille, bourbon & barrel. Not how I was fully exspecting. A little sweet at times. Good but not great. Awsome bottle. cheer’s.
