On tap at the Burger Bar. Pours a very dark brown with moderate-sized light brown head. Aroma is quite roasty with hints of vanilla and coffee. Flavour strong roasted malt with coffee and light vanilla. Body is by no means light but lighter than expected. Enjoyable.

Pours dark brown to black with thick foamy head that dissipates quickly. Lacing sticks but also dissipates. Lots of roasted malt flavour, vanilla and a hit of chocolate. This is a pretty big porter. Hicher than average ABV at 7% but still very drinkable and smooth. Very pleasant. Nice job GLB!

Plain 750mL bottle that I picked up from the brewery. 7% ABV, 30 IBU’s. Big vanilla and chocolate in the smell and taste. Warms nicely with a little bourbon note coming through. Looks and feels good for the style.

750 ml Bottle from the brewery. Pours deep, thick, black in colour, with thick looking mocha head. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, with hint of vanilla. Taste is leaning to bitter side, roasted malt, maybe a hint of bourbon. Darn nice! Great job Great Lakes!

Bottle from the brewery. Deep almost black colour with a large and creamy mocha head. Aroma and flavour both come on strong with dark malt and vanilla, with backing notes of hazelnut, coffee beans, dark cocoa. Sweet but not cloying up front, moderately dry finish with lingering notes of dark chocolate and roasted barley. Really lovely stuff!

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2012 Project X bottle from brewery, which says 7.5% ABV and 45 IBUs. Pours thick and black with a brown head. Sweet vanilla aroma with some roasted and burnt notes, but it is a bit metallic. Taste starts off sweet with vanilla, then roasted barley, then bitter dark chocolate finish. I really enjoyed this one.

Pours with mocha head but guillotines it pretty quickly. You can smell a lot of vanilla of the bat. THe taste creates a kind of clash between the vanilla and roast dark malts that almost works but still seems to knock heads. its different, and definitly worth a try but not necessarily a preferred for me. On tap at Bellwoods.

Cask at C’est What. Deep black with fairly bubbly tan head. The aroma has a nice soft vanilla and maple character over a rich chocolatey base. Flavour is loaded with vanilla - so much that it almost gets up into the caramelly regions of the flavour palate. A little bit of light roast and some moderate bitterness to cut the vanilla sweetness. As it warms up the vanilla becomes even more prominent. A little bit of astringency, but it’s not too distracting. Pretty nice brew for a cold winter day.

cask at Coles, Buffalo. darker brown pour. lots of aroma, cinnamon, bourbon, vanila fill the active aroma. Taste was similar to aroma, the bourbon & vanilla notes over pour any roast that may have been. Tons of flavor, medium to lighter mouthfeel. nice beer. Thanks Lackey

Sample at GLB Volo tasting. Pours a solid black with a decent creamy brown head. Aroma certainly has both coffee and vanilla with some hints of the malt in back. Flavour is roasted coffee bitterness with some vanilla. Mouthfeel is suitably medium for the style. There’s a little of the woody bourbon in there towards the end. Overall it’s good but a little scattered.
