"Johnny Simcoe APA" started as a one off Project X cask.
Lieutenant General John Graves Simcoe is legendary for his trailblazing into Upper Canada. As a result of this he’s had both a town and a lake named after him. That’s nothin’, now he’s got a beer!
Part of the Tank Ten series!

500mL can, sent from wilco (thanks Mike), pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out pleasant piney hop notes upfront, with secondary notes of floral hops and biscuity malt. Flavour is bright and refreshing, with dry piney hops, some floral notes and just enough dry biscuity malt. Well-balanced, dry and crisp, remaining highly drinkable. Not terribly complex, but certainly a thirst-quencher. Great stuff for a hot day.

473 mL can. Nice looking beer - slightly hazy yellow with a big, thick, bright white head. Nice hoppy aroma - sweet citrus and mild pine. The flavour is really interesting, with pilsner malt joining the hop party.Really tasty.

Pours hazy straw with two fingers of pillowy white head, good retention and excellent lacing. (4/5) Nose is juicy citrus, catty, pine resin, very little malt. (7/10) Taste is mild sweet giving way to moderately strong bitter. (7/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, building bitter finish. (4/5) No bottle date, but I got it via trade the day it was sourced from GLB (a few days ago). Typical catty Simcoe notes, but not overwhelming. Maybe a little too sharp and bitter to be a simple thirst quencher, but pretty pleasant. Another good treatment of the Simcoe hop, and actually very similar to the Bellwoods Cat Lady I had yesterday. (15/20)

Fresh can from the brewery. Clear medium yellow with white head. Nose is all hops, pine, grapefruit rind. Same for the taste with a medium bitterness. Quenching and tasty.

Bright and zesty aroma of lemon and grapefruit and morning sunshine and tastes of another load of citrusy hops. Very juicy and very hoppy. A fantastic summer patio beer.

473 ml can from the brewery via kopitar. A stunningly drinkable, refreshing, hoppy ale. Possibly the best GLB hoppy beer I’ve had.

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto) Pours a very pale slightly hazy straw yellow with a decent-sized head of white bubbles. Aroma almost all hops, catty, grapefruit and fresh dank, quite pungent and a good expression of the hop. Flavour follows the nose, dank grapefruit hops dominating a light pale malt backbone with very little sweetness, citrusy bitterness taking from the middle of the palate on through the finish. Dry and crisp. Over-carbonated in draught form, body fairly light but style-appropriate. Summer quencher. The tall cans I had were not as enjoyable.
