News of any new hop coming from the Yakima Valley perks the ears of IPA brewers everywhere, but, with Citra, things were different. The buzz was bigger. As Citra’s wave rolled across the land from the west coast we waited... and waited. Finally it crested, and a sample crashed into our pilot system. After brewing with it all the buzz made sense. Comments ranged from "Well that changes the game" to "It’s so good it feels like we’re cheating." Today we procure as much as Citra as we can to bring you as much of this IPA as our little brewery can muster. All hail Citra!

Bottle: Poured a nice clear bright yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of huge floral hoppy notes of citrus with some leafy notes. Taste is dominated by the leafy and citrus hoppy notes with limited bitterness and some residual sugar notes clearly identifiable. Body is light with good carbonation. I really enjoyed this beer and love the aromatics and the balancing of the bitterness.

650ml bottle from the LCBO. After trying the new session IPA Amsterdam put out another beer showcasing some Citra. Hazy orangey-light light amber body with a creamy head lacing extravagant white lacing. Tropical fruits are present, some pineapple, pear, and orange juice. A little bit earthy, decaying leaves as well, some cereal in the back although it is obviously hop forward with little malt presense in the aroma. Thin bodied and light. Lively carbonation with a grapefruit rind finish whch is quite long.

On tap at Brothers Beer Bistro (Ottawa, ON). Hazy amber body with a thin white creamy head. Fresh hoppy aroma with citrusy and mango hints. Its sharp hoppy taste carries herbal and grapefruit notes. Ends with a long bitter finish. Good stuff.

GLB has definitely arrived, this pint was as good as I could ever hope Stone IPA to be with delicious layers of citrus and no excessively acerbic leafy bitterness. Nice gently hazy gold color. I look forward to having again. At Thirsty and Miserable.

Bottle from the Dundurn LCBO. Pours a clear copper/ gold , two finger white head, loads of lace. Nose is sweet and powerfully tropical fruity. Tastes sweet buscuity malt, bitter, good harmony between the two. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a frothy to creamy white head that diminishes slowly leaving a ring of foam and pretty good lacing. Fresh bright aroma of spruce, resin and citrus. Medium body, medium bitterness, light sweetness, average to lively carbo and a very long bitter finish. Well balanced, nicely done.

I know I’m that last of the folks I follow (whether they know I’m lurking or not) to rate this. (Except DerWeg, how is that possible? And oh ya I’m following you.) That’s because every other beer seems to be an IPA, (and every fourth IPA seems to be from Great Lakes) and I’m getting tired of the hops war. Mostly because there seemed to be no balance. Well this beer has balance. It knows what it is. A citrusy fruity hop beer that doesn’t air pump the breaks with bittering, or harsh resiny flavours. Overall a very nice beer, you should try it. That’s it. If you’re looking for the details, check out Freaky_tiki’s review. It tells it well. -Squishiness.

very good beer...straight out of the bottle properly chilled creamy, clean lemony soapy mouthfeel-tiny bit of oily barely perceptable at first...mellows to unripe red grapefruit tang. Sharp citrus rinds come through later heavy bittersharp grapefruit rind tho just shortlived with a slight caramel creamyness that mellows out very very nicely worldclass...and I say that and hops are really not my thing but I would drink this again anyday...maybe with some smoked franks red hot peanuts ( haha- maybe we need to make those ) palate cleans

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2015 The chief drawing card (for me) at the Great Lakes Tap Takeover at Buster Rhino’s in Oshawa in late February, this Citra-hopped (naturally) IPA did not disappoint. All grapefruit and tropical fruit on the nose with lots of lingering bitterness, Karma Citra also delivered lemon and orange with slightly chewy malts. Very good.
