News of any new hop coming from the Yakima Valley perks the ears of IPA brewers everywhere, but, with Citra, things were different. The buzz was bigger. As Citra’s wave rolled across the land from the west coast we waited... and waited. Finally it crested, and a sample crashed into our pilot system. After brewing with it all the buzz made sense. Comments ranged from "Well that changes the game" to "It’s so good it feels like we’re cheating." Today we procure as much as Citra as we can to bring you as much of this IPA as our little brewery can muster. All hail Citra!

Bottle. Cloudy yellow pour with a small white head. Tropical fruits and some citrus zest in the aroma. Flavour is quite hoppy with lots of lemon and hop bitterness, some mango. Pretty nice bitter IPA.

Thanks to cfrancis for this great brew! The nose is great hoppy-floral. The beer starts smooth-floral. Slightly sweetish, nice floral hops with a smooth bitterness lying over the body. Grain, even cookie-dough, fresh citrus-hops. The aftertaste is long, fresh, floral-citrus with a smooth slightly yeasty background. Nice!

Thanks to erzengel for sharing this treat!! Pours a hazy marigold color and and a light tan head. The smell is initially a touch of burnt rubber, fruity hops. The taste is tart fruit, citrus ending dry and a bit bitter. Light+ in body with nice creamy carbonation.

22 oz bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours hazy orange-golden with a medium white head that fades quickly to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big notes of lemon and grapefruit rind, with resin, mango, grass and pale malts. The flavour is balanced between moderate citric-tropical hops on the one hand and moderate pale malts on the other. The finish is long and hoppy with lingering hops. On the palate it is medium in body with a smooth, milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a very nice citra IPA. Reasonably complex yet refreshing--great for summer. 2014-08-30

This is a citrus bomb. All orange. Pours a cloudy orange. Aromas and flavors of orange. Very smooth and extremely drinkable. One of the better ipas I’ve had in awhile.

650mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Nose is full of piney and citrus hops, a noticeable astringency, and a thin crackery malt backing. Flavour is a piney and citrus hop blast, with medium astringency, and a thin but sufficient crackery malt backing. Very hoppy, dry and highly drinkable. Exactly how I like my IPAs. Wonderful stuff.

Bomber from the LCBO. Clear slightly dull pineapple pour with an off white head that froths almost over the glass. Slightly musty, but still pleasant, lemon rind, passion fruit, bit of tangerine, malt is present but takes a supporting role. some grass. Moderate body and carbonation, smooth on the palate, easy to drink, booze is present but not overwhelming and warms a bit on the finish as everything dries out and becomes nice and bitter. Tasty.

Very nice citrus/spicy aroma with light malt. Not overly complex, but citra hops with a nice backdrop. Hazy yellow with very long lasting foamy white head. Tastes great too, upfront orange peel, finishes with orange juice, peel, light malt and a minerality/spicyness. Pretty great single hop IPA, if you like citra. Medium carbonation and body.

650ml bottle. Hazy golden body, medium white, dense, creamy head with excellent retention. Citra aroma at its best: peaches, pineapple, apricots, camp flowers, a touch of hot spices. Taste of sweet caramel malt upfront, followed by a nice herbal bitter kick, and finishes with exotic juice. Aromatic without the excessive amount of bitterness. Gets better when warms up.
