The weather channel describes Lake Effect snow as a “mass of sufficiently cold air moving over a body of water creating an unstable temperature profile in the atmosphere.” Who cares. This beer, however, has nothing to do with that drivel. It was inspired by a summer spent drinking heaps of IPAs on a stoop on Elmwood Ave. in Buffalo, NY.

Clear, dark golden pour with mountains of nearly white head. Lots of citrus and piney hops on the nose with something a little bready and a light caramel base. There’s something tropical there too. Almost melony. A little less exciting on the palate but there’s a solid citrus and pine hoppiness with a good solidly bitter crunch in the finish.

Oh boy this is great!! Nice and juicy and piney nose. Notes of big citrus, some peach, lots of pine, some light sweet malt backing to give some balance. Taste is medium to heavy bitter and light sweet. Mouth is full bodied, slightly buttery with a long tongue scraping bitterness to the finish. One of the best beers I’ve had this year!

Pours a rich cloudy gold with a lively frothy white head. Aroma notes include pine, resin, citrus, ethers, and biscuit. Tasting notes include pine resin, mango and grapefruit bitterness, sweet biscuits, and a touch of honey. As always, GLB delivers the goods!

Pours cloudy deep gold with a big frothy white top. Aroma is big grapefruit and tropical fruit hops. Taste is a beautiful boquet of tropical fruits and grapefruit hop bitterness with a small sharp finish. Great grains to balance this beast off. More.

Bottle (650 ml). Thanks to Sammy for this one. Slightly hazy golden/copper with a medium mostly lasting off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is a burst of juicy hops, mango, tropical fruits, peach notes and light sweetness. Taste is slightly sweet and intensely juicy with mango, peach, a nice but discrete malt backbone and light bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish. This is insanely drinkable and so juicy. If it was available in my area, I would drink a lot of this. Very nice!

Really juicy aroma, full of tropical fruit and tangerines. A hint of sweet caramel sweetness as well. Smells great. Hazy golden/yellow, long lasting white head. An IPA definitely on the bitter side, but it works. Upfront you get the tropical fruit present in the nose, followed by a really piney, bitter, cat-pee like finish. Bitter on the whole tongue. Medium bodied, average carbonation. A unique and very good beer.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2013 650ml from the brewery. Pours a hazy copper/orange with a one finger, off-white head that sticks around but eventually thins to a film that leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is large with notes of grapefruit, orange citrus, pine, resin, and grass.Taste is bitter but with a solid malt backbone. Hints of bread, grapefruit, citrus, peppery/clove spice and straw in the aftertaste. Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Slightly slick/oily texture.Overall tasty. Big pungent bitter taste with an earthy/peppery finish. Enjoy!

650 mL bomber. Pours a hazy light orange with a lot of yeasty bits. Aroma is pure American hop; mango, guava, grapefruit, pine, orange, only a hint of maltiness. Almost sweet from all the fruit notes, backed by a big bitter punch. Crisp, but not harsh. Clean on the palate with lingering bitterness. Very refreshing, goes down all too easy.

Hazy amber gold colour. Pinecone aroma with pale malts and finishes with more pungent hoppy aroma. On the palate it is filled with light citrus notes, pine cones and hoppy finish. Decent IPA.

2013/11/17 - Pours a hazy orange honey colour with a thick, frothy, off white head that lingers and leaves ample lacing. Aroma is citrus fruits, grapefruit, pine and hop resin. Taste is citrus hops with a well balanced sweet malt backbone and a sharp, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation and a crisp, drying finish. Nicely balanced IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
