Okay, we’re busted! We’re calling this beer a weiss; it’s not! We’re suggesting it’s from Miami; we’ve never even been there. Confused? So are we.

What we know is it is an American style take on a traditional German wheat beer - A Pale Wheat. Rather than a mild hop presence, this baby is packed with Pacific Northwest hops. It’s made with a pale ale yeast which doesn’t produce the same banana flavour you find in German weiss beers. We also know that it goes down smooth and tastes terrific.

So, what’s with the name Miami Weiss? It’s just something the guys in marketing came up with.

650 mL bottle. Pours a cloudy straw color with a spongy white head and lacing galore. Great piney, citrusy hop nose. Layers of aroma hop, hints of citronella, wax and soap. Fruity and bone dry with medium carbonation and a well rounded and smooth wheat accented mouth feel. Clean and American in style. The ultimate summer beer, dangerously sessionable.

650ml bottle. First, let me say, I bought this bottle without reading the back. Then, I opened this bottle without reading the back. Then I took a sniff, and thought "What the..." Pours a hazy pale beige/orange with a thin white head. Aroma is BIG on fruit (passion fruit / dried strawberry) with a faint resinous note, and wheat. Lighter bodied, with huge flavours of fruity hops (again passion fruit, and dried strawberry) followed by a resinous bitterness that lasts until the finish with some bitter wheat, and citrus notes.

Pour straw golden yellow big white head. Aroma huge citrus, mango, tropical, pineapple, grapefruit. Taste quite bitter, light wheat malt, citrus, tropical hops, pineapple. MF medium slightly fuller body with light fizzy carb. Solid brew very tasty and great hop character. Not necessarily a wheat just a very tasty beer.

Cask at the brewery - poured a cloudy greenish gold with a firm, small white head. Lovely aromas of mango, banana, peach, and a whack of citrus. Some yeast as well. Flavour much the same, but with a pronounced bitterness at the back end. Very flavourful for a 4.5% beer. Kudos to Great Lakes (who just keep getting better and better) or this beer - I hope they brew it again, and on a more consistent basis. My favourite in the GLB stable.

Bottle from the LCBO bought on a whim just for the name. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a generous white head that leaves some lace. Nose is big grapefruit and pine. Nice balance of typical wheat grassiness and sweetness at the start that then picks up an unexpected level of bitter citrus. Nice light mouth with lively carbonation. This is NOT your average wheat beer with the hops punch giving that little bit extra. Good summer time patio beer.

Draught @ The Only, Toronto, ON: Light copper colour, great marshmallow white head. Aroma is metallic, sour orange and rye bread. Tastes nicely bitter with sharp black pepper and tangerine. Sadly, there’s a bit of a metallic character to it that’s a bit off-putting, but this is still one of the better efforts by this brewery.

Awesome aroma( almost like hops rght off the vine. Not much to the flavour though. Not really much wheat. Okay.just because of the aroma

2013/06/23 - Pours a hazy orange, straw color with a large, fluffy white head. Aroma is orange, lemon, wheat and piney hops. Taste is watery, slight wheat and a metallic, hop aftertaste. Mouthfeel is thin with medium carbonation. Seems diluted. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
