Deep gold in colour with incredible aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and mango, My Bitter Wife is an IPA for the serious hop-heads out there. Full bodied, subtle malt notes with a pleasant and balanced bitterness obtained using some Simcoe, Columbus and Centennial hops, it finishes dry with a lingering hop presence that leaves you wanting more. My Bitter Wife will be sure to awaken your senses with each sip.

Carrie Nation was a nearly unstoppable force behind the temperance movement. She fought a long and hard battle, hacking at the legs of libation. My Bitter Wife is our tribute to her!
Part of Tank Ten series!

*beer review* Great Lakes Brewery - My Bitter Wife IPA Very clear orange pour with a light white head. The grapefruit citrus scent is a lot weaker than most Pale Ales. Yep itís a pale aLe. Strong one too. Grassy. spicy and that finish lasts a very long time. One of these days I hope the LCBO stops this fascination with new Pale Ales.

Fresh bottle drank and reviewed a couple weeks ago, but not uploaded thanks to a shitty Rogers service. Hazy orange pour, 2 fingers of head. Grapefruit and grass in the aroma. Tropical fruit is fairly prominent here, grapefruit, lemon, orange, mango, grass, caramel - fairly balanced. Medium body.

Pours a hazy dirty yellow with a reddish hue. Aroma is a sharp grapefruit hop flavours and small cereal. Taste is a beautiful grapefruit and citrus hop flavouring and bitterness. Slightly balanced with straw grain malts. This needs to be a regular item. So good.

Month old bottle from the LCBO. Hazy orange pour. Smells very tropical. Pineapple, passion fruit, citrus. Grapefruit, peach, and pine for the flavour. Not picking up much in the way of malts. I like the comparison to Five Alive. Odd, but accurate. Certainly bitter, medium mouthfeel overall. Itís very good.

Part of a bomber from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Cloudy deep amber with a nice orange-light tan head. Aroma: Strong pine and grapefruit, rich, sweet caramel maltiness, quite nice. Palate: Medium body, relaxed effervescence, slick. Flav.: Strong pine/resin and grapefruit peel, good caramel malt backbone; dry with good bitterness and a fairly long, dusty, malty and grapefruit finish.

Bitter Wife, happy life?

bomber from the LCBO. hazy orange with a lasting off white head. pretty typical ipa. lacking a little in both hop aroma and flavour but there is massive bitterness on the finish which reduces drinkability. good but there are better local options out there.

When it comes to hoppy American IPAs, it doesnít get much better than this. Pours orange golden hazy, with a beautiful thick foamy head. Citrus hop aromas dominate but thereís alot more going on. I also get some toffee or marshmallow notes along with some hints of hay or cut grass. Starts very smooth, then some carbonation creeps in, bringing with it some citrusy grapefruit and piney, resiny flavours. Finish is long and bitter with some alcohol warmth. Great Lakes Brewery recently won Canadian brewery of the year at the Canadian Brewing Awards and this gorgeous IPA is simply another demonstration of the ever increasing powere. Carrie Nation, we salute you!

Bomber from the LCBO, from their "Tank Ten" series at 7.0% ABV. Pours a slightly hazy, golden-amber colour, with a creamy off-white head that has great retention. Soft hoppy nose with all of the great fresh typical IPA notes; grapefruit, grass, other citrus, spices, all with some sweet malts and warming alcohol. Nicely balanced mouthfeel between wet and mildly dry in the finish. The sharp bitterness in the finish, is still mild overall. Again, well-blended between the sweet malts and the fruity hops. Very well-done IPA, that is not over-the-top, but has all the character of one.

Pours a hazy amber with foamy off white head thatís very lacy. Aromas of floral hops, citrus and mango. Tastes strong of hops and very bitter that coats the mouth.
