COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep gold in colour with incredible aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and mango, My Bitter Wife is an IPA for the serious hop-heads out there. Full bodied, subtle malt notes with a pleasant and balanced bitterness obtained using some Simcoe, Columbus and Centennial hops, it finishes dry with a lingering hop presence that leaves you wanting more. My Bitter Wife will be sure to awaken your senses with each sip.

650mL bomber from my lickbow. I didn’t even realize the character on the label was a woman until I saw the smaller thumbnail on this site. Weird. Pours a mostly clear orange with a small fluffy beige head. Aroma is strikingly hoppy, like a combination of hop varieties I have no encountered before. Citrus rind, pineapple and peach, pretty awesome combo. Flavour has some orange esters and a mild malt body underneath some dry and puckering hops that blend very well. I love Great Lakes for their ability to create numerous IPA’s, all with gimmicky names and yet completely distinct from each other in terms of flavour. Fuck Carrie Nation.

Pour light orange slightly hazy with an initially foamy head that dissipates quickly to a light covering. Lots of lacing. Nose is grapefruit and fruity. Aromas of grapefruit, 5-alive, some mango and maybe a hint of cereal. Tastes are light sweet and high enough bitter. Body is fairly light with lively carbonation. Really nice beer.

650 mL bottle. A little hazy, but brilliant head. Pine and a little pineapple in the nose. Not too strong, but very appealing. The same in the mouth, in the reverse order. Bitterness is perfect, and good body for the style. Please mass produce this so that I can afford more!

The beer pours a very hazy golden-orange colour with a long lasting white head. The aroma is citrusy hops, some tropical fruit, and caramel and grains. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Flavour is a mix of tropical fruit and citrus with some sweet malt as well. Easy to see why this has been a favourite of the Toronto beer crowd for the last 3-4 years.

The kind of Ontario brew that makes even bitter old me smile. Maple pour with skinny finger cap that fades to subtle valley & river beds. A palate that grabs your boys, gives ’em a tug & twist. A keeper.

Tropical fruit, citrus explodes as this one pours, being very fresh must help. A bit of sweet malt and pine come through as well. Looks great, slightly hazy copper color and a thick white head. Taste is predominantly pine, earthy notes and biscuit/breadyness. Get a bit of a tropical aftertaste and the hop bitterness is quite apparent on this one. Balance could be better on this one, but a good IPA for sure. Medium bodied, average carbonation.

On tap at Imbibe GLB Tap Takeover. Slightly hazy amber with a foamy white head. Big citrus fruit aroma (mainly grapefruit) - nice! Taste starts off sweet then quickly turns extremely bitter. Mostly just malt flavour in there, with a little spice and some fruitiness. Silky smooth mouthfeel with a great body.

Pours golden clear with good head and lacing. Smells nice and fruity. Finishes mildly bitter, actually less than the devil made me hop it pale ale I just had from Great Lakes. Pretty thick consistency. Tap at,volos.

Burt Reynolds bottle from the brewery. Pours a hazy orange with a bit of white head. Smell is hoppy citrus with a bit of spruce/pine and a some sweet maltiness. Palate is medium bodied with average carbonation. Taste is bitter at first, then balanced with a slight sweetness and a long bitter aftertaste. An excellent IPA.

neongolden (377) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 25, 2012
(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto, Sept 23 2012) Poured a hazy brownish orange with a bubbly whitish head that left some lacing. Aroma of resinous pine, some citrus, earthiness and caramel malts. On palate, leads with a combination of pine resin, citrus peel and caramel, quite balanced, with fairly strong greenish bitterness from the 90 minute hops boil kicking in mid-palate and drying the beer out along with some alcohol heat. Body medium-full, carbonation moderate and creamy. Another well-balanced, drinkable IPA on the bigger side for GL.
