Commercial Description:
In our quest to bring you the most flavourful and unique beers possible, we are proud to release this tasty spring beer. Handcrafted with five specialty malts and five varieties of hops, along with just a touch of honey, we added heaps of fresh oranges and peels into the boil. A little different, you say? We sure hope so. Orange Peel Ale balances the unique flavour of oranges with generous amounts of hops to achieve a slightly fruity and refreshing taste. We are proud to offer this limited edition beer as we celebrate our 20th anniversary of brewing excellence.

Draught @ West 50, Mississauga, ON: The folks at West 50 pumped this guy up quite a bit; no fewer than three employees billed it as a great beer. Mind you, they were also suggesting Rickard’s White, so perhaps I got what I deserved? Came orange/brown in colour, almost no head, and an aroma of off-putting malt and alcohol. Four at our table tried it, not a single one of us could detect any orange. In fact, we were almost positive they’d poured us the wrong brew. Turns out they hadn’t. Great Lakes is rapidly joining Trafalgar in my "don’t bother trying" pile of GTA beers. Boo-urns.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at the LCBO Rideau in Ottawa for $4.95. Pours a copper body with an almond-coloured head. Nose of orange and mild honey. Flavour of spiced malt with a tart citrus base. Not really that bad but a tad expensive for the quality. Average.

App.: Deep clear orange poor with a thin frothy off-white head

Aromas: Ginger, hint of tangerine, orange zest, cloves, honey

Palate: Faintly sweet start with an average yet nice bitter mouthfeel, good carbonation, zesty all the way

Flavors: Tangerine, pepper, good maltiness...

Notes: Very drinkable, unique but not unpleasant

Bottle from my secret santa. Dull auburn pour with a decent head. Nose is predominantly coriander with limited orange and some sweet malt. Mostly spice and astringent malt with no orange to be found. One dimensional and boring.
