Bobsy (196), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 5, 2007 Half pint from Volo. Poured a very dark brown, with a creamy tan head. In the dark lighting it almost looked like a stout! The aroma smells nice and fresh, with hop and caramel notes, as well as fruit. Well-balanced hops and malt in the flavour, finishing with a lingering spiciness. Medium bodied on the palate. This one is a decent beer, but not extraordinary. Lubiere (3326), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 19, 2007 A dark brown clear ale with a thin off white head. A sweet biscuitty malt with maple fudge notes. In mouth, a crisp nutty malt with light bitterness and a bit of licorice. Medium bodied. On tap at Merchant Ale House, July 28 2007. DerWeg (444), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 7, 2007 Pint at BeerBistro. Turbid brown hazy translucent coat. What Harry said.- caramel and toffee and dry and nutty, a malt forward aroma, and a slight viscous sweetness that hangs on a bit (much like their Pale Ale) but this brewer is getting better all the time it seems. I just really enjoyed this. tupalev (2311), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 3, 2007 On tap, Beer Bistro. Murk very dark brown, small but bubbly brown’ish head. Interesting spicy hop aroma and lots of malt. Taste - my first reaction was "Hey I used these hops in an old homebrew" - in a good way. I don’t know what the heck they were, but they were present and bitter and spicy. The body was also a strange concoction somewhere between a brown ale and a schwartzbeer. It reminded me a but of what Corporal Punishment used to taste like - a nicely hopped up brown ale. Good stuff Great Lakes, keep it up, this was good! GregClow (2351), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 27, 2007 Updated: Sep 8, 2007Draught sample at the 2007 GTAs. Deep brown-red with an off-white head. REALLY nice aroma of dark malt and green, herbal hops - oh yeah! Body is soft. Flavour is great, with big, well balanced malt and hop flavours. Very, very nice!
