Bottle from Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was okay overall. The alcohol was a little noticeable for "only" 5.5ABV. Seemed like a fairly benign base beer with a hint of pumpkin and spice tossed in the mix. Fine I suppose but there are better pumpkin-specific beers out there.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 robinvboyer (2578) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 2, 2008
Aromas of pumpkin spices, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and a touch of malt. Flavor is much of the same, putting this side by side with the st ambroise i’m finding them very very similar, but this one seems a tad more full bodied, and have a little less of a thin flavor profile.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rederic (2559) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 4, 2009
650ml bottle, amber color, with a thick white head, yeasty, spicy nose of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, gingerbread, with a toasted, biscuity malt, bready dough, pumpkin skin accent, and light pumpkin pie aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a crisp, faint fruity pumpkin, spicy character of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, gngerbread, with a biscuity, caramel malt note and a hint of cookie dough, with mild pumpkin skin fruitiness, and faint flowery hop grassy accent, leading towards a toasted malty, spicy cinnamon, lingering hop bitterness finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 probstblueribbon (2379) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 22, 2007
Bomber from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. No indication of “Double” on the label...
App.: Clear orange-amber, small off-white head.
Aroma: Ginger leads the charge, followed by cloves and allspice, nutmeg comes on late as the temperature rises; there are some underlying bread-crust malts I think (we’ll see as it warms); the spices jostle for pole position as the beer warms, a touch of leafy hops starts to peak its head out.
Palate: Medium body, a touch slick, medium effervescence.
Flav.: Clove and nutmeg overtake ginger with allspice/cinnamon trailing by a neck; a bit of med-roasted malt hidden in the wings; on swallowing, the spice profile softens and the after taste is restrained (thankfully).
Never a fan of this style, I like that Great Lakes dialed back the spicing. Give me hops or give me hell. Leave the spices in the kitchen.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 garthicus (2336) - Dublin, IRELAND - SEP 28, 2008
650 bottle from LCBO - No mention of the word ’double’ on the label. App: Deep orange with a pancake coloured head. Aroma: Wonderful spiced pumpkin aroma with some malt. Flavour: Cinnamon, spice, pumpkin, nice malt finish too. I reckon this will be my go to beer as long as the season lasts! Lovely.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 watson1977 (2295) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Pours a clear orange color with a medium off white head. Aroma has seasonal spices. Flavor has nice layers of spice, doughy malt...graham, and pumpkin...well done! Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is spicy and bitters slightly. Nice pumpkin beer!
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rudolf (2276) - Buffalo, New York, USA - NOV 28, 2007
Bottle from Tupalev - Thanks! Gold with a hint of tan, thin white head. Nose is pumpkin pie but also something "christmasy." Actual pumpkin meat in the aroma too - nice! Some light biscuity malt hanging out. Flavor is lighter pumpkin spice than the nose suggests. Whats behind the spice is a passable, if boring golden/amber ale. The one thing keeping this beer interesting is the lingering vanilla note. A bit of malt, spice and vanilla in a thinnish finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Quevillon (2213) - Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 31, 2007
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 radiomgb (2143) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 3, 2007
Clear golden-orange in colour, thin white coloured head, lots of visible carbonation, very light lacing. The aroma is of light pumpkin, light spice - mainly clove and allspice. The pumpkin seems to take over in the flavour with the spice taking a backseat, some earth and a light sweetness. Creamy mouthfeel, light body, medium carbonation. Finishes sweet, thin with some light pumpkin. Its okay, starts to become a bit much. With such a new bottle, why was my cap so rusted?
650ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario for $4.95.
Purchased on October 24, 2007 and opened on November 1, 2007.
No date.
