COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In our pursuit to bring you the most flavourful and unique beers possible, we are proud to release this tasty autumn ale. Handcrafted with an assortment of specialty malts and hops, we added a generous amount of pumpkin directly into the brew. Combine this with hints of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice, and you’ve got a beer that you won’t soon forget. Rich, satisfying and slightly spicy, our seasonal ale goes perfectly with your favourite dessert or traditional feast. But like fall, Pumpkin Ale comes but once a year!

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2007 Initially sampled at C’est What? fall fest, and then poured from the bottle when it arrived at the LCBO. Smells like Thanksgiving. Colour and taste is that of pumpkin. Finish left the taste of mulling spices behind. Medium bodied. I think this beer was really well-balanced, as I found that the pumpkin flavour did not overpower. A great beer for fall!

Bomber from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. No indication of “Double” on the label...

App.: Clear orange-amber, small off-white head. Aroma: Ginger leads the charge, followed by cloves and allspice, nutmeg comes on late as the temperature rises; there are some underlying bread-crust malts I think (we’ll see as it warms); the spices jostle for pole position as the beer warms, a touch of leafy hops starts to peak its head out. Palate: Medium body, a touch slick, medium effervescence. Flav.: Clove and nutmeg overtake ginger with allspice/cinnamon trailing by a neck; a bit of med-roasted malt hidden in the wings; on swallowing, the spice profile softens and the after taste is restrained (thankfully).

Never a fan of this style, I like that Great Lakes dialed back the spicing. Give me hops or give me hell. Leave the spices in the kitchen.

A dark golden ale with a thin off white head. A sweet caramel and nutmeg aroma, pumpkin spices, expected. In mouth, a clean crisp malt with sustained cloved and nutmeg, lightly oily mouthfeel, and medium bodied. Very nice for the style. Dec. 14 2007.

(Rated earlier in November, but on the wrong "Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale" page!) 22oz bottle purchased from LCBO in Toronto for around $5. (I think the alternate "Double" listing comes from early kegs on draft. I don’t believe there is any intentional difference between the draft versions and the bottled version that does not say "Double".) Pours a light straw with lots of carbonation. Quite nice aroma of "pumpkin beer" spice. The first taste is tangy from all the carbonation. The wife comments that it burns her tongue. Flavour is a nice, typical pumpkin beer. Not mind blowing, but nice to at least have the option in this variety-starved province.

Clear, orange color topped with a fingerwidth of off-white head. Moderate retention, no lacing. Nice pumpkin spice aroma, both sweet and savory, with cinnamon and nutmeg. Slight hint of pumpkin flesh and buttery crust. Taste is spicy pumpkin pie, although not as prominent as the aroma. Finishes with a dry, pilsner malt quality. Medium bodied with dense, prickly carbonation. A nice, well-rounded pumpking ale.

Growler shared by JaBier: Spices! This one is packed with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a nice raw pumpkin flavor but still finishes slightly hopped enough not to be too sweet. Good pumpkin beer.

hazy "pumpkin" orange, no head, descent lacing. nose; pumkins, sweet pumkin spices-clove, nutmeg, allspice all there, creamy, fatty, reminds me more of a pumkin spiced cream brulee than a pie. taste similar but more subtle, very warming, mostly the spices come through in the taste than the pumpkin did. made some "ale anglaise" with it to go with a hazelnut cake, very good.

650 ml bottle from brewery. Pours a very slightly cloudy orange-gold with modest-sized white head. Aroma has lots of spice, especially nutmeg and allspice, and pumpkin. Taste is similarly full of spices, with a nice pumpkin presence and a little bitterness in the finish. A solid pumpkin beer.

Bottle. Hazy golden-orange pour. Mild malt and hops, with spices and nutmeg that ultimately define the beer. Nothing too extraordinary, but does it’s job fairly well, a nice casual beer. Worked nicely on Thanksgiving too!

Beer came in a 650mL bottle. Bottle is dark brown with halloween pumpkin on the front. This is a seasonal beer for Autumn. When poured into a pint glass, Colour is a cloudy amber at a coppery tone. The aroma is of cinnamon, five spice. The taste of pumpkin is mild with strong flavours of spice, cinnamon and hops. Interesting beer that I do recommend you try.
