COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In our pursuit to bring you the most flavourful and unique beers possible, we are proud to release this tasty autumn ale. Handcrafted with an assortment of specialty malts and hops, we added a generous amount of pumpkin directly into the brew. Combine this with hints of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice, and you’ve got a beer that you won’t soon forget. Rich, satisfying and slightly spicy, our seasonal ale goes perfectly with your favourite dessert or traditional feast. But like fall, Pumpkin Ale comes but once a year!

Draught. A clearish light orange body with a small white covering. The aroma has some light citric accents along with kind of cinnamon/peppery pumpkin bread. Creamy sweet malt flavour, light pumpkin esque spices. Brackish bread and caramel flavour is also found throughout. Not too bad, not spectacular either though.

650 mL bottle. Reddish orange with almost no head. Aroma is malty and spicy - caramel and allspice(?) seem to predominate. The flavour is very spicy; definitely some cinnamon and nutmeg in there. More like pumpkin pie beer than pumpkin beer. Quite sweet. Slightly bitter at the finish. Average carbonation. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours amber orange colour with ample white head. Aromas of malts, pumpkin seed, and spices. Taste of sweet malt gives way to slightly bitter pumpkin seed finish. Notes of cinnamon and caramel as well. Overall a solid brew that balances well.

Bottle 650ml.

[ As Great Lakes Brewing Project X Pumpkin Ale (orange foil) ].
Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, pumpkin, soap, coriander, pumpkin spices. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long long duration, coriander, pumpkin spices, peppery. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110129]

650 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a tulip. Pours clear orange-golden with a medium sized white head. The head slowly fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose is spicy, with big notes of allspice, clove and nutmeg, along with cinnamon, and a touch of toasted malts. The flavour is surprisingly dry and bitter with perhaps a touch of pumpkin but a continuation of the spicy notes from the aroma. The finish is long with a distinct autumn spice quality. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a dryish texture and soft carbonation. Overall, I was a little disappointed with this one. While the requisite spices are there, the body was thin and left me wanting something more substantial. 2011-04-29

Originally rated November 2008. Second pumpkin ale reviewed tonight (of two). This one being a Canadian one, the other, American. This one is on the hazy side, with a golden-orange colour. Its head is off-white, longer lasting and leaves a thick chunky lace all around. The spices are not as predominant as the other though. After waiting a while, a little cinnamon comes out. It has more of a hoppy scent to it. The mouthfeel is not as crisp as the Brooklyn one, but has a little more stickiness to it. The hop takes over the spices in the taste as well. The pumpkin is also taking over the spices (that I really enjoy in these pumpkin ales - see St-Ambroise’s pumpkin ale). Again, not a bad pumpkin ale, just missing some impact. Judging from the other reviews, I wish I could try this one fresh from the brewer. This brewer seems to be getting better every year. I like to try this beer every Halloween.

Bottle from Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was okay overall. The alcohol was a little noticeable for "only" 5.5ABV. Seemed like a fairly benign base beer with a hint of pumpkin and spice tossed in the mix. Fine I suppose but there are better pumpkin-specific beers out there.

I was more impressed with St. Ambroise’s take on the pumpkin ale, but if you are a fan of the style this one shouldn’t let you down. It’s easy to drink and not as ’spicy’ as I expected it, but it’s easily recognizable as an autumn pumpkin brew.

On tap at Stout Irish Pub. Slight pumpkin aromas and flavours. Not as pumpkiny as it could be.
