Hints of caramel, nuts and toasted malt result in a fully flavoured, yet deceptively smooth lager. A well balanced body makes it a perfect year-round beer. Red Leaf is an ideal match with burgers, rubs, sandwiches and stews.

A dark reddish amber, with a faint malt accent and a quick finish.

Red copper lager with a collapsing off white head. Aroma of sweet wet dough. In mouth, sweet fruity malt, with notes of phenolics, and very thin bodied, short in mouth. Not bad, just plain and boring.

I think they have strengthened the formula from previous years. This brewery concentrates on sweet things and is brewing cake with beer, ice cream with beer. That’s its target niche. This brew is carmelized malt. There’s good carbonization here.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2003 Toronto Festival of Beer 2001 - Unexceptional, but drinkable. I got it by mistake thinking it was Red Maple from Northern. Beerfest 2003 rerate: Slightly sweet aroma, no head, thin bodied.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2013 Rerate. Light amber pour with a thick white head. The aroma has a little bit of sweet toffee and a bit of toasted grain. A fairly bready mouthfeel and a bit of light herbal spiciness on the back. A fairly simple, but tasty brew - seems much better than I gave it credit for the last time. Great balance. Deep amber-brown pour with a thick tight tan head. The aroma has a little bit of light toffee along with a touch of oddly metallic character as well. A fairly dirty DMS sort of aroma over a thin malt base. There is a touch of dark malt character but it tastes like it’s from roasted malt for colour - not really from any sort of character malt at all. There is a little bit of earthiness but it’s not really from either hops or malt - it’s just kind of there. Moderately astringent and not really all that good. 5 4 4 2 9

Bottle brought from Kingston and shared by Robbie. The aroma from this bottle was so bad, I passed it around the room to receive commentary: compost, canned beans, dog food. It smells appalling. Looks harmless enough, and tastes bland, but the smell is astounding. Wow.

bottle, thanks Andrew for bringing this one down with you. Pours copper/amber with off white head. Aroma of floral hops, malty with faint notes of caramel. Taste is malty, hoppy with some fruit presence. Overall mouthfeel is watery with slight dry-bubbly-bitter caramel finish. Not horrible, but too one dimensional and boring.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2008 Bottle thanks to matt7215. Pours a hazy red with a small white head. The aroma is mostly a caramel malt. The taste is dominated by a somewhat spicy caramel flavored malt. Initially it is a quite fizzy and a spicy malt that is followed by a soft sludge of sweet and not pleasant finish. Not bad, but needs something, especially in the finish.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2007 [442-20070726] Sample @ LCBO-Summerhill. Smells like dead fish cakes lightly sprinkled with urine. Clear, amber brown body with a quick bubbly white head. Light wheat flavour is mostly malty grain only with a hint of fish. Light-medium body. Aroma is unappealing. (3/3/4/2/8) 2.0

[619B-20070916] Sample @ Feast of Fields (Hillsburgh, ON). Sweet almost sickly grain aroma. Clear, amber red body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Fruity malt and grainy wheat flavour with a bit of honey. Grainy medium body. Not bad, almost repeatable but for a weird sweetness. (5/3/6/2/11) 2.7

Can (473ml). Pours a deep, bubbly orange-copper with an average size lasting fluffy white head. Mild aroma of grain, lightly toasted caramel malt, light vegetal notes and a hint of hops. Flavour follows the aroma with lightly toasted malt, grain, light hops and adds some nuts. Average bodied. It’s a decent Lager but it’s not my thing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
