COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An assertively hopped American Pale Ale with citrusy and piney Cascade hops. Subtle malt flavors balance the hop profile and provide a satisfying dry finish.

Clear medium amber with a persistent 1/2" off-white head and small streaming lace. There is a nice caramel malt leading the way with a quick chaser of clean hops showing a little pine. The two hold on for a tie at the finish, which lingers nicely. An unpretentious brew, but also light and refreshing. Good.

Bottle. Orange toffee and hay aroma. Golden yellow color with small head. Slightly sweet toffee malt and moderately bitter flavor. Slightly metallic finish. Okay but think this bottle was a bit past it’s prime.

This is a mild pale ale with notes of pine and citrus. A little too thin. Needs more malt and a bit more hops. Decent overall.

Pours a nice coppery-brown. Smallish head. Hops and roasty malt in the aroma and flavor. Rather an earthy, grassy finish.

Clear light copper, thin white head, need more of. Mild citrus & malt aroma. Good citrus flavor, hint of malt. Medium body, good hop bitterness that lingers. I’d like more malt but the hoppiness will lead to this again.

Reviewed from notes (2009) A: Orange-amber body, moderate frothy white head... receded fairly quickly, moderate lacing left behind. S: Citrus, caramel and floral notes. Citrus was mostly a grapefruit-orange blend. T: Dominated by an orange-grapefruit bitterness... some bready-caramel holds things together. Slight herbal character. M: Perhaps a touch thin, good carbonation. Rounded, soft finish.

I am biased to Great Lakes as a former resident of NE Ohio. But one beer I have really loved for a long time is the Burning River Ale. It is a light, hoppy Pale Ale that is very refreshing. The aroma is average but the appearance is a very nice golden color with a light to medium head. I have always liked the taste. It is moderate in body but the hops are crisp and defiining. The hops hit the palate and quickly disappears after you swallow. Overall it is on my top 10 list of Pale Ales.
