moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Jul 6, 2006 "I was very unimpressed with my first Burning River Pale Ale. I’m a huge fan of Great Lakes, so this one was a let down. The beer isn’t terrible at all, but just average. I’ve had other APA’s that had more character and flavor. The pour was orange with a white head. The flavor was hoppy, and bitter, with a strong aftertaste. " bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 6, 2006 Bottle. GL is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries. Thin, bubbly, white, head. Bright, copper, clear appearance. Full, fruity aroma. Fairly thin consistency. Wonderful fruity flavor with a dry, hoppy end. Very nice. Very smooth. I loved it. Dhrjericho (66), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 4, 2006 Pours a slightly amber gold color with a minimal head. The aroma seemed to have hints of pine and caramel. The flavor had a medium to light hopiness with a malty caramel finish. Fine pale ale. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jul 3, 2006 Bottle from trade with OhioDad. Poured a clear copper color with a creamy off-white head that left some lacing. The aroma found grapefruit, pine, lemon, and some graininess. The flavor followed the same with pine, grapefruit, wheat, and a hint of malts. Medium body with a medium bitterness. Truly a delight! Thanks Scott!! Fonix7 (50), Toledo, Ohio, USA Jun 30, 2006 Too much hops not enough malt. Bright with a lasting finish. Great Lakes makes better beers than this. Try the Porter (my favorite). Cliff (355), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA Jun 27, 2006 good apa, almost an ipa. strong hop aroma and flavor that is balanced pretty well with the malty flavor. citrusy tones due to the use of cascade hops. overall a good beer and one of my favorites from this brewery. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Jun 25, 2006 finally a local beer store is carrying GL and some other midwest brews! pours a crystal clear golden amber with a decent head. aroma is initially floral & citrus, but picked up the piney scent on the second go-round. flavor is crisp and clean with hops dominating and some malt to help the balance. solid APA. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 19, 2006 Updated: Nov 29, 2006draft at th brewery. Aroma: lemon, grapefruit, cereal, and caramel. Appearance: Amber with gold highlights. Small white head which diminished to a small ring around the edge of glass. Nice lacing. Flavor: citrusy hops up front, followed by a big malt sweetness, and then balanced by a good resinous malt finish. Strong notes of caramel and butterscotch throughout. Palate: Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Nice dry hoppy finish. Overall: This is a good beer, but not as good as some other APAs out there.
