COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coastís unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Style Origin: Distinctively American, the Double IPA or Imperial IPA is thought to have originated in California. This fairly new style is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content, creating a very strong and flavorful drinking experience.

Flavor: Hop-forward with a balanced blend of Mosaic and Nugget hops

Ingredients:
MALT Harrington 2-Row Base Malt: Allows color and flavor from other specialty malts to come through; makes for very clean beer Caramel 45: Contributes to amber color; provides complexity Honey Malt: Contributes sweetness

HOPS Mosaic: New U.S. hop; provides floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy characteristics Nugget: U.S. bittering hop; provides floral, resiny aroma and flavor Cascade: U.S. hop with citrus characteristics for aroma

Pairs With: Smoked beef brisket, grilled lamb, sharp and rich cheeses, and sweet desserts

Shelf Life: 90 days

Nice hoppy, floral aroma. Feels a bit slick and oily going down. Taste of grapefruit, with something like mango or peaches. Just a hint of pine and resin. Great stuff.

Many thanks to Chris for bringing it over. Fresh intense floral and malty-sweetish nose. Smooth, sticky floral. Intense nice bitter hops on a viscous and floral body. Easy to drink though with an alcoholic sweetness in the back. Easy to drink, fresh and floral, smooth. A nice brew but too sweetish for my taste.

Many thanks to Chris for sharing! Pours an orangish yellow with an off-white head. The smell is caramel, tropical fruit, citrus and pine. The taste is similar to the nose with a dry fruity ending. The body is medium and oily with fine carbonation. Pretty nice stuff.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2015 Deep hazy golden color. Citrus and fresh earthy hops on nose. Taste is not very bitter. Very refreshing body and flavor. Didnít put the glass down until it was empty. Really enjoyed this. Might be my favorite dipa.

Pours orange golden color with a bit of hazy and a finger of white foam. Lots of soft honey notes on the nose with layers of citrus and stonefruit. Palate follows with a sticky background malt that mellows out the punchy citrus hop notes and lingering nectarine. Bitterness is mellow. Solid brew with a kick.

Bottle. Slightly hazy dark gold, white head. Thick malty backbone on the hops. Good strong IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 5-20-15. Strong, fruity aroma features scents of mango, apricot, lemon, watermelon and dust. Reminds me of an apricot-flavored Fruit Roll-up (thatís a compliment) in aroma. Slightly barley-wine-esque maltiness in the smell. Fantastic and appealing smell. Pours a clear copper-bronze with many small bubbles. Small amount of light taupe head. The liquid looks pretty good in its tint, and I could have given the appearance a 4 were there more head. Strong, juicy aroma features a caramel malty start and a quite dry finish with a bunch of fruity hoppiness throughout that matches the aroma. Flavor of mango with a touch of cream. Also a touch of spice. A ton of flavor and complex; a lot going on. Verges on excessively sweet, and perhaps slightly sweeter than ideal, but not cloying. Medium to full body. Smooth and frothy in the palate. Acceptable but not outstanding palate effects. Overall, smells great and tastes delicious. Unlike many other of the best double IPAs, it doesnít have a particularly great appearance or palate effects. Still, in the most important areas, aroma and flavor, this is one of the best double IPAs on the market. Iím very happy to have tried it.

Pours an orange amber. White head. Extremely sweet up front. Pineapple, mango, then follows with a hoppy after taste. Really great, most IPAs are not as sweet up front.

A dark copper with some ruby, half finger white head. Smells of sweet fruit, lavender, resin, citrus, caramel malt in the distance and a little woodiness. Taste is surprisingly sweet, pineapple juice, apple cider, grapefruit which greatly offsets the citrusy, resiny hop flavors. Ends with a grapefruit like bitterness and a cracker malt. Alcohol is fairly present but not distracting. Sweeter than I'd like in an IPA, perhaps need to try a fresher bottle as the hops aren't quite there enough. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
