4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle of the 2014 edition, poured into the official GLBC Christmas Ale snifter at approximately 50 degrees F.
A: Pours eerily similar to the Eliot Ness lager this year, a clear, ruddy bronze-amber. The pale white head forms thin, and does not linger overlong ere becoming a rim of white. Bubbles rise slowly from the bottom of the glass in a steady stream or three. The lacing is spotty, and quickly slides down the glass.
S: The smell is fantastic, opening with a tone of sweet malt that is quickly joined by a chorus of cinnamon, ginger, and a vaguely floral citrus undertone.
T: Ginger snap cookies sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg open the flavors of this beer, which are then cut with a noticeable floral-citrus hop presence. Some of that bitterness lingers through the finish, which would otherwise be pure cinnamon sugar and ginger. Some clover honey hints swim through the background, adding enough sweetness to offset the hop presence.
M: Creamy and effervescent, this beer goes down smoothly.
O: The 2014 batch seems fairly on point, if a bit more to the citric-floral hoppy side than I recall previous years being. Iíd have liked a sweeter, maltier beer, but this one is still tasty and enjoyable. Thereís also always next yearís batch!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
"pretty close to hitting the head on the nail as far as spiced ales are concerned. good looking cloudy mahagony body with decent head and retention. aroma is nice...toasted malts, spices (cinammon, ginger, honey, ornage peel?). body starts off a little too carbonated but rounds out as the honey really stands out when it warms. lingering spiced dinish with some sweet malt and a touch of hops. well done. A very good winter warmer...and this one was a few months old. probably a 4 fresh!"

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Orange-amber hybrid color with a slight red tint; exceptional clarity with a small, off-white head that muddles itself across the top. Full basket of toasted malts & holiday spices on the nose. Cinnamon, nutmeg, toast, caramel, ginger, allspice, fresh grain; though the spices are generic for the season, the balance between them is executed very well. Nice balance of sweet & spicy on the tongue. Spicy in terms of spice... not "heat", of course. Caramel, buttery toffee, baked & freshly toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, warm nuttiness with a strong aftertaste of lightly caramelized brown sugar. This beer reminds me of pecan pie or Christmas sugar cookies. Along with SN Celebration, itís one of my favorite holiday endeavors, & I look forward to it every single year like a damn kid on Christmas.

Draft, just 2 weeks ago. From notes. Loads of caramel and baking spices. Just wondering if this is fresh of "vintage" from last year. Either way, itís still good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It poured a crystal clear amber color with thick head and nice lacing. Smell was super sweet with loads of caramel, some citrus, apple, ginger, coriander, chocolate, and rich honey. Taste was nice as well. Super malty with nice bready notes, slight grapefruit, cinnamon and ginger. Mouthfeel was medium, slick, and drying. I had a great time drinking it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle served in a goblet.
Body is deep amber-copper with excellent clarity. Head has poor retention.
Smells and tastes like a spicy brown ale. The spice mix says winter holidays and, while obvious and too strong for some ales, is not so powerful as to mask the solid caramel and medium roast malts used in this ale.
Medium body with medium-light carbonation.
