Malt and ginger aroma on a dark amber brew. Flecks of debris detract from the appearance. I'm not a big ginger fan but this one's done pretty well, not overdone.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 7, 2003 This beer (along with the other Great Lakes beers) is worth a trip to Cleveland. Two years ago (2001) I was passing through and stopped at Great Lakes for dinner. After several pints of this wonderfully balanced and deliciously flavored beer, I checked in to the holiday inn. That night I dreamt of this wonderful beer all night and planned on procuring it in bottle form for all my friends to try. Alas, I brought it home and realized it's too delicate to be bottled. This beer is great on draught but comes up bland in the bottle.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2008 December 2007. Bottle. Dark amber body with a small foamy beige head. (3+) Strong ginger aroma, mild fruit and malt character. (6+) Moderate spice throughout the flavour, ginger, underlying sweet malt. (6+) Average palate. Pleasant but just okay, lightly lingering spice. 6+/3+/6+/3/13 - 3.3
<P>November 2000. Bottle. Strong, and you can taste the alcohol a bit. The spices (cinnamon and ginger) are very mellow, not overpowering.. hints of it in the aroma. Nice, but on the bland side. Could handle more cinnamon, or more malty flavor I think without become too overpowering. 7/3/6/3/13 - 3.2

Fantastic darker amber colour with a long lasting tan head. Smells of sugar, molasses and canella rise from the glass. Good medium-bodied beer with a nice and not overpowering 'wintery' flavour. The aftertaste lacks a little bit, being bland...but all in all, a great overall beer. Just what I have come to expect from Great Lakes. Only one not-so-great beer from the whole lot is a pretty big deal to me.

Cinnamon spice and everything nice...great beer. Pours a reddish amber smells like a spice cake and tastes very good too! Too bad this is a seasonal one. It is a warming filling beer but warms you with delightful spices...even the aftertaste leaves you like you just had a gingerbread cookie.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
A nice copper colored beer with a nice head. Aroma full of hops. Very citrusy and spice filled. Flavor was just too much spice for my liking. Very strong impression left behind.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This beer poured a reddish amber color and formed an amazing off white foamy head that left some circular lace as it subsided. It had an aroma of malt and cinammon. The flavor was of malt, cinammon and touch of ginger. A good beer from Great Lakes, but a bit pricey.

Ruby-reddish color. Slightly off white head. Spicey aroma. Not a whole lot of visible carbonation. Good amount of spices. Not too light, not too heavy. This is a Goldilocks of x mas beers. I'm already looking forward to next Christmas for all the seasonals that come out.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2009 Bright golden with a thick head. Smooth, complex malts with pine and spice. Very spicy, like a cinnamon stick. Good balance. Rich malts, light spruce. Excellent brew.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bright speckled copper appearance. Nose was fruity with some citrusy hops. The body is spicey and fruity with a good backbone of sweet malt. Nicely balanced and drinkable, but I didn't note any cinnamon or honey or ginger that were all listed on the bottle. Oh well, thats probably a good thing cause I don't care too much for ginger.
