3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
GABF 05. Pours a decent amber with an aroma of cinnamon and pumpkin. Flavor is like a slice of gingerbread. Palate coats. I’d love a bottle of this every holiday season.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 19, 2006 Come holiday season, everyone seems to get more excited about this brew than I do. It really doesn’t do all that much for me, especially compared to the rest of the great lakes brews. It did have a somewhat spiced aroma and flavour and it tasted, well, like a lot of great lakes brews. The high alcohol content is well-masked. To its credit, it doesn’t go overboard on the spice the way a lot of spiced ales do. I am not a big fan of this style of beer...and yet this one is really quite drinkable to me.

Big alcohol presence and holiday spicing: nutmeg cinnamon ginger and clove. Some bitter hopping but mainly sweet roasted malts and cinnamon. Sampled August 30th, 2005 STILL!!! on tap at the MAPLE TREE INN.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2006 One of my most favorite beers I have ever had. A gorgeous brown with red color. And a thick body with a thick head. The beer has a great sweetness with spice, malt, and hops in the aroma and flavor. Great alcohol content, but the alcohol never overpowers the flavor. The drink is smooth and you never get that much too bitter aftertaste in the back of your throat. Amazing.

Nice amber/orange color, with a tan head. Aromas are various and numerous spices, and malt. Flavors are spices and fruit, with some malt. Interesting...

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Much thanks to some forgotten Rater for sending me this Ale!
Pours with a beautiful ruby and amber body with a downy cream colored head. The aroma is splendid and definitely evokes thoughts of the Holliday season! Wonderful spiced notes of exactly what the bottle reads, ginger, cinnamon, honey, and I get a spot of nutmeg as well. The flavor brings all the same spicy notes, tones of ginger and cinnamon but adds in a great touch of biscuity malts along with a fruity complexity; apples, plums, spiced orange, black cherries, it’s brilliant! This brew is truly like a mild holiday fruitcake….. And I got a little bitterness in the finish, but mostly a finish of never too sweet malts and holiday spice!

First off, Gotta love the 7.5%. It seems that this beer changes slightly from year to year, and I remember 2003 being much tastier than this year’s offering, however, it remains my favorite Great Lakes offering, and I can’t wait ’til Christmas!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2007 I am reasonably fond of this brewer in general. This one has been sitting in the back of my beer fridge since the holidays and I just now got around to trying it for the first time. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a dark caramel color with only a trace of a white head. The aroma is sweet and very spicy with notes of cinnamon and allspice. The flavor is strong and spicy with nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice noticeable. There is a moderately thick body. It is fairly sweet. The spiciness lingers on the palate. Sadly I will have to wait until next holiday season before buying more.
