thetrifecta (29), Bell’s country, Michigan, USA Feb 24, 2004 Updated: Dec 14, 2004 Great aroma consisting of Christmas staples such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and a definite thick caremelized malt. The hops are nearly eclipsed by the spices throughout the full body, but finally come through in spiced, hoppy finished. Definitely a beer to enjoy a few times a year, as it is a little overwhelming for a casual beer. Overall an excellent beer that does what is intended.
bconley (111), Fern Park, Florida, USA Jan 7, 2009 Thanks to Beervirgin72 and Dragonstout for the keg of this. Amber with a thinish white head. The smell has beatiful big ginger and cinnamon elements(I’m a ginga-holic) Carbonation is nice and sharp. THe spices come out again in the flavor, Seems like it would be really good on a cold night......too bad we don’t have too many of those here in Orlando. cmillward (270), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2009 Graciously shared by DragonStout and BeerVirgin72. They brought a keg of this to share down from OH. Pours a dark ruby with a thin pink head with a little lacing. I am not a big fan of ginger in beer. Unfortunately for me this beer is oozing the stuff. On the nose, lots of spice, mainly cinnamon and ginger. I can barely pick up the malt underneath all of the cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg in the flavor. Spicy, drying, with a medium mouthfeel. I have loved most of the other Great Lakes brews, but the ginger wrecks this for me. I can say that it really reminds me of a Danish spiced Christmas ale, just not my thing. patrick767 (1586), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 4, 2009 bottle - Pours amber and smells of rich malt and spice. The flavor is sweet caramel malt, holiday spices, and a touch of mild hops. It’s medium bodied and very session-able. The ABV is a little higher than I would have guessed. darkguardian (223), Florida, USA Jan 2, 2009 KEG (yes thats right Dragonstout brought back a freakin keg for us) shared at Redlight Redlight by Dragonstout.
Pour was a burnt amber with a nice sized off white head. Nose is similar to a pumpkin ale, very spiced with alot of cinnamon and nutmeg. The flavor is very robust. Good heavy mouthfeel with a very biscuity yeasty taste and some lingering cinnamon and nutmeg notes after the fact. Very malty, almost no hops. Very solid. pantanap (899), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 31, 2008 12oz bottle from west lakeview.... pours a transparent dark caramel amber brown with a thin wispy barely off-white head... aroma of cloves, pumpkin, and a dusting of cinammon.... glavors of sweet molasses, brown sugar with a lingering sweetness and a touch of bitterness in the end. medium carbonation with an average mouthfee. somewhat thin body.
