3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A real winter warmer here, and an annual favorite. Bottle pour - kicks up a nice off white head with clinging lace. Deep copper/orange in color with a slight unfiltered look. The nose is ginger, orange peel and christmas candles. Taste wise, the nose sits true, with a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon and a dollop of honey - maybe a tad more here than previous years, which have had a little more heat. Quite a heavy mouthfeel, which has a thick throat covering sensation which seems to come from the honey. This is a satisfying festive ale with pronounced spices. There are plenty of similar offerings to this but I feel this is head and shoulders above other such options on the shelf.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear copper pour with a thin, creamy off white head. Aroma is big on toast and warming cinnamon, with a little ginger and some other earthy spice notes. Flavor is toast, caramel, oily grain, sweet floral honey, dusty cinnamon and dried ginger. medium body, slick and somewhat syrupy entry, drier, more oily finish and medium, sharp carbonation. Good stuff overall, a bit on the simple side, but a pleasantly warming drink for cold weather.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Cooper's hawk winery in Columbus. Very tasty, first Christmas beer for 2014. The beer was lightly spiced with some smooth dark malts. Hope that I can find this in bottles or cans back in philly this holiday season.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
The honey helps to not overpower the ginger and cinnamon which are definitely present. Type of beer you maybe get a 6 pack a year around the holidays to share.

12 oz bottle of the 2014 edition, poured into the official GLBC Christmas Ale snifter at approximately 50 degrees F.
A: Pours eerily similar to the Eliot Ness lager this year, a clear, ruddy bronze-amber. The pale white head forms thin, and does not linger overlong ere becoming a rim of white. Bubbles rise slowly from the bottom of the glass in a steady stream or three. The lacing is spotty, and quickly slides down the glass.
S: The smell is fantastic, opening with a tone of sweet malt that is quickly joined by a chorus of cinnamon, ginger, and a vaguely floral citrus undertone.
T: Ginger snap cookies sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg open the flavors of this beer, which are then cut with a noticeable floral-citrus hop presence. Some of that bitterness lingers through the finish, which would otherwise be pure cinnamon sugar and ginger. Some clover honey hints swim through the background, adding enough sweetness to offset the hop presence.
M: Creamy and effervescent, this beer goes down smoothly.
O: The 2014 batch seems fairly on point, if a bit more to the citric-floral hoppy side than I recall previous years being. I’d have liked a sweeter, maltier beer, but this one is still tasty and enjoyable. There’s also always next year’s batch!

"pretty close to hitting the head on the nail as far as spiced ales are concerned. good looking cloudy mahagony body with decent head and retention. aroma is nice...toasted malts, spices (cinammon, ginger, honey, ornage peel?). body starts off a little too carbonated but rounds out as the honey really stands out when it warms. lingering spiced dinish with some sweet malt and a touch of hops. well done. A very good winter warmer...and this one was a few months old. probably a 4 fresh!"
