doboy (145), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jul 3, 2009 Compliments of the Beer Somimelier to the Stars, Drbayern. WOW! ANother great beer from Great Lakes! Poured a nice off orange yellow, clear and clean. Nice satiny head that stayed the whole beer! Wonderful citrusy aroma. Mouth feel was excellent. Smooth in front, with a hint of grapefruit from the hops. Nice hoppy aftertaste and bite! Makes me want to live back up north!!! lordsummerisle (17), New York, USA Jul 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours orange with medium white head. Aroma is somewhat malty with orange/grapefruit. Flavor is a nice balance of caramel malt and fruits. Hops bite hard in the end...a very dry finish. A nice bitterness in the aftertaste that lingers. Tasty but nothing amazing. LilBeerDoctor (1291), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 23, 2009 Bottle thanks to moejuck. Pours a clear light orange with a thick white head. Aroma of sweet malt (some wheat maybe?), light tropical fruits, and light hops that become more garlicky as the beer warms. Flavor is more hoppy with grassy and citrus hops. Nice and hoppy, although the dominating hops make the flavor not as complex as some of the top IPAs. Still, a solid IPA.
8/4/8/4/14 (3.8/5) fredandboboflo (1168), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 23, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of peaches, lemony nectar and pollen, fleshy orange, leafy hops, light grass, dessert-bread malt . Flavor bitter and resinous and well-balanced with semisweet, bready malt and a caramel aspect of it that really goes hands in hand with the resin. Distinct grapefruit notes as well, particularly in the finish, maybe even some bitter olive tones. Pretty dry. I’m really enjoying this and finding it to be a very nuanced brew, though I think that may have more to do with my sensory perception being quite keen at the moment, and sometimes when I have moments like this I wonder if so many nuances of many other beers that have crossed my tongue have been lost. Or maybe I’m not giving myself enough credit and this beer is just awesome. I also realize all this philosophical pondering has little, if anything, to do with my rating, but I felt now was the time to bring it up. Really nice beer, by the by. DalzAle (354), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Jun 21, 2009 Bottle. Clear yellow/orange pour, little carbonation and a sour and dry hoppy aroma. Flavor was heavy citrus orange, hops, flowers and bitter on the finish. Decent IPA, but it still doesn’t beat a Bells Two Hearted or a Surly Furious. OSLO (746), Minnesota, USA Jun 15, 2009 [Bottle] Pours orange with a tiny off-white head. Aroma is not great—sweet and grainy, with faint toffee and honey, and some floral notes. Taste is significantly better. Pretty good hop bite. Mostly grapefruit. Simple, but pretty good. Average mouthfeel, good finish with a lot of malt. Big disparity between the aroma and taste, but all in all it is a drinkable beer, albeit very far from spectacular. Guerde (638), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jun 15, 2009 (bottle from OSLO) Pours out clear amber with a thin white head. Aroma is slightly musty, peppery, and a bit cheesy. It takes a bit of warming, but some citrus appears and there is a hint of coriander too. Taste has ample caramel, with a bit of citrus (tangelo) on the end, that finishes out with some nice grapefruit bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is as well. Thanks Al! Chef Chad (78), Grand Junction, Colorado, USA Jun 4, 2009 Did not get much of the nose on this one.. some hops .. Pours A golden orange color with a nice white head that lasted. Medium body with Lacking carbonation but that was ok. Flavor was average for me with the other IPA’s I have had. It had all the flavors but nothing stood out... OK and I would drink it again..
