slitcher (92), Freeport, Illinois, USA Feb 28, 2009 Pours a clear amber with a tight off-white head. Aroma of piney hops, sweet malt, and banana. Sweet with a nice hoppy backbone. Refreshing biter finsh. Overall, a very good middle of the road IPA. bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA Feb 18, 2009 Pours a clear amber color with elongated small beige head. Aroma of citrus hops, some yeast, orange, bananas. Slight bitterness throughout a bit of malty sweetness in the beginning with very small amount of fruit in there as well. This is what I think of for a classic American IPA. wheelz843 (203), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Feb 17, 2009 bottle. pours a golden yellow with little head. has a sweet, hoppy aroma with hints of apple. very dry hoppy flavor with a nice bitter finish. Beerman125 (18), , New York, USA Feb 14, 2009 A simple IPA with pleasing color and good balance. An excellent choice when your in the mood for an IPA on the subtle side. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Feb 14, 2009 Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA is on the border between dark gold and light amber. It’s crystal clear and quite sparkling. It’s topped with a dense white head, with rainbow bubbles, that fades to a film and leaves good lacing. It has a nice, bold, citrus-pine aroma, along with something herbal. It smells a little sweet, like Christmas cookies. Despite the "best by" date being passed, it smells fresh. It is medium bodied and very smooth. It has a creamy mouth feel that’s a little bubbly. It lightens up toward the end of the taste. It has a pretty dry finish that leaves the mouth a little sticky. It’s pretty well bittered and pretty well balanced. I suppose I would prefer a little more bitterness to go with this huge boozy quality. It’s a touch sweet. The flavor is mostly grapefruit and pine. The alcohol lends a black pepper quality. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 13, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a crystal clear, copper body with a smallish, white head.
Smell: Basic pale malts paired with a fragrant, fruity blend of fresh melon, pine, and an assortment of various citruses.
Taste: Starts with a modest pale maltiness and light, standard sweetness that is, perhaps, a bit simple, but it gives a good white canvas over which to exhibit a range of hop flavors - a drop of melon juice, a drizzle of pine resin, and a platter of sweaty, pithy citrus rinds. Medium-high bitterness. Further hints of grain return for the dry, bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: An enjoyable, quality India Pale Ale charged with plenty of hop bitterness but, thankfully, refrains from being overbearing. shawn14505 (34), Rochester, New York, USA Feb 6, 2009 This beer is middle of the road as far as IPA’a go. It has the standard hop smell and taste, but there is some kind of weird earthy notes to this beer. It’s not a bad taste, just different from what you would expect. Good alcohol content, this borders on an imperial IPA. I can recommend this beer, just be warned that this is no Stone IPA. It’s... weird. MrRain (416), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Feb 4, 2009 12oz bottle poured into an English pint. GLCPIPA pours brass-colored with a large fluffy head that leaves thick heavy lacing. This is a great looking beer. The aroma is very typical of an IPA with the exception that the hop resin smell is lighter than usual. There is also a light lilac aroma. The flavor is nice and dry with a refreshing hop billet that isn’t too intense yet is strong enough to be enjoyable. All in all this is a medium-to-good IPA.
