4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 8-29-12 -
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a lightly hazed golden amber color with a one finger white head. The head had a decent level of retention but eventually fades to give a good level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is a nice blend of fruit and hop. The fruit is a mix of tropical aromas of pineapple and mango with hints of tangerine while the hop aromas is dominated largely by a grapefruit smell. While grapefruit is the strongest hop smell there is also a lighter earthy and floral note aroma as well. While the aroma is rather light overall for an IPA it is quite pleasant.
Taste – The taste begins with a breadiness mixed with some of the tropical fruit and some grapefruit hop flavors. While sweeter in the beginning, the hops start to win out over the tropical fruit sweetness and the beer begins to bitter ever so slightly. Hop flavors of an earthy nature join the grapefruit which, in the end, leaves a nice balanced hop flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is just above average in creaminess. The carbonation level is quite average. The creamy body is nice for the malty and the hop flavors and makes it quite smooth on the tongue.
Overall – A wonderfully tasty IPA. Very smooth flavor transitions and a great flavor profile. One to go to again and again.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the 12 fl. oz. bottle received in trade from a non-RB member. The pour is light to medium amber with a lasting off-white head. The aroma begins with a roasted malt character but becomes a bit strange with a buttery kind of hop scent. The body is medium. The taste also has this sort of biscuit start but the hops turn more floral than the aroma suggests.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA has a fairly thin, white head, a clear, bubbly, golden appearance, and a good amount of lace curtain left behind on the glass. The aroma is of semi-sweet white bread, some tart fruit, hop resin, and subdued barley. Taste is of all that, with a pronounced, yet not harsh, straight-forward hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA finishes on the dry side and decently drinkable. RJT

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted from bottle. Pours a clear orange amber with white head. Aroma is fairly sweet. Caramel, syrup, floral notes. Don't get too much hop aroma. Taste is moderate bitterness with a nice malt backbone. Flavors of flowers, caramel, toffee, biscuits, pine and a little spiciness. Overall a pretty soild IPA but for the style I don't think this is one of Great Lakes better beers which are normally incredible.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Shiny gold penny orange appearance looks quite nice. Undistinguished slighlty alcohol and pine aromas that continue into the flavor. Generally unimpressive IPA, it’s fine but not really anything special.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap poured into a shaker. The aromas are toasted caramel and bread with a touch of citrus. It pours a clear brownish gold with a soapy white head. The head reduces down to a medium thin ring with a surface dusting and leaves behind a decent, light density lacing. It’s taste is a medium high bitter with a medium sweet. The oily texture is complemented by a light, fuzzy carbonation. It’s full body finishes with bittersweet citrus and toast along with a caramel note. There a strong resin presence in the aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good IPA, golden color and balanced hops . One of the better IPA beers I’ve had. I like that it is more classic versus many of the fruity ones out there.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle: Golden, light-amber color with tangerine highlights; hazy, cloudy, & topped with a sticky, foamy white head. Aroma of dense, spicy hops, pungent grapefruit rind, citrus peel, dank earth, & herbaceous tones. Undercurrent is very sweet & malty; caramel & toffee, big-time residual sweetness... Smells like an over-hopped, "light" barley wine. Lots of CaraMunich malt in the first sip, too... Very sweet, caramel, toffee, baked bread. A little bitter twang from the hops, a touch of pungent grapefruit & some white pepper, giving a mild floral & leafy finish. Some mild fusel alcohol notes as the beer warms, strange for only 7.5% ABV. Finishes with a touch of grapefruit pith & a helping of borderline sugary sweet caramel malt. Not awful, I’m just personally not a fan of IPAs being this sweet.
