Medium bodied and well hopped with dry, fruity aftertaste, this monumental India Pale Ale honors the hero from The War of 1812 who battled the enemy on Lake Erie.

Shiny gold penny orange appearance looks quite nice. Undistinguished slighlty alcohol and pine aromas that continue into the flavor. Generally unimpressive IPA, itís fine but not really anything special.

On tap poured into a shaker. The aromas are toasted caramel and bread with a touch of citrus. It pours a clear brownish gold with a soapy white head. The head reduces down to a medium thin ring with a surface dusting and leaves behind a decent, light density lacing. Itís taste is a medium high bitter with a medium sweet. The oily texture is complemented by a light, fuzzy carbonation. Itís full body finishes with bittersweet citrus and toast along with a caramel note. There a strong resin presence in the aftertaste.

Good IPA, golden color and balanced hops . One of the better IPA beers Iíve had. I like that it is more classic versus many of the fruity ones out there.

Bottle: Golden, light-amber color with tangerine highlights; hazy, cloudy, & topped with a sticky, foamy white head. Aroma of dense, spicy hops, pungent grapefruit rind, citrus peel, dank earth, & herbaceous tones. Undercurrent is very sweet & malty; caramel & toffee, big-time residual sweetness... Smells like an over-hopped, "light" barley wine. Lots of CaraMunich malt in the first sip, too... Very sweet, caramel, toffee, baked bread. A little bitter twang from the hops, a touch of pungent grapefruit & some white pepper, giving a mild floral & leafy finish. Some mild fusel alcohol notes as the beer warms, strange for only 7.5% ABV. Finishes with a touch of grapefruit pith & a helping of borderline sugary sweet caramel malt. Not awful, Iím just personally not a fan of IPAs being this sweet.

Decent middle of the road IPA. Not overpowered by hops, but not exactly weak either. Thirst quenching after running. Perhaps oaky or molasses-y. Good. Would buy again.

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2014 Disappointing. I?m a huge fan of ipas and usually like great lakes stuff. This one taste like a helles lager not an IPA at all.

Pours a bit hazy with a one finger head. Sweet aroma with hints of citrus and resin. Flavor is moderately sweet with bitter citrus throughout, a great IPA

Reviewed from notes, and actually Iíve only ever had just a couple times through trades. Always in a pint glass with this one, here we go. The appearance was a gentle light golden amber to orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dies within less than about forty seconds. Thereís a good amount of lacing kinda going all over the place not forming any real speckled or spider web or even rings. Honestly, it looks kinda sloppy. The smell had a decent amount of English malts mainly just coming in front just a tad of some bitter piney hops. The taste was balanced more between the malts and hops, so Iíd say it was a good bittersweetness. On the palate, it sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionable quality about it. The carbonation seemed appropriate for the style and for me. Overall, I say this was a good EIPA worthy of having again. Good job Great Lakes.

On draught at clev airport - pours clear copper with medium thick head. Nose of hop and strong floral components. Taste is surprisingly sweet and syrupy with hop undertones. Not enough hop for my liking! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bottle. Pours golden with a big white head and huge amounts of lacing on the glass. Aroma is floral and some citrus. Tastes moderately sweet. Very nice.
