4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweet hoppyiness on the nose. Pours clear pale yellow-orange in color with a nice white head. Full sweet hoppy IPA with a fine bitter and dry ending. Gentle frothy mouthfeel, slightly syrupy, warm after taste. A solid IPA, just right for starting my summer ale season. The bitter ending stays with you to the bottom of the glass.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
pours a dark yellow with a little gold tint to it and has a one finger bubbly off white head. aroma is malt and hops with some melon and orange characteristics. has a medium body with descent lacing and carbonation. flavor is definitely better and stronger than aroma. a very nice ipa and another nice one from great lakes. palate is oily yet a little creamy as well, and has a dry hop aftertaste. i would definitely get more of this!

UPDATED: APR 19, 2009 Rerate: 4-19-09
Bottle. More mainstream IPA than I remember from the draft version; less spritzy. Rather decent IPA now. Quite drinkable yet still doesn’t stand out enough to justify regular 6-pack purchasing.

Draft at Taste of Cincinnati festival. Bubbly orange body topped by a light but lasting head. "Medium bodied and well hopped with dry, fruity aftertaste" seems appropriate. Focus is on the citric hops, dry bitter finish. Somewhat spritzy mouthfeel. Like many other Great Lakes offerings (with the exception of Blackout Stout, which is delicious), this is technically well-made yet doesn’t succeed in drawing you in and making you want more.

Commodore Perry poured crysatl clear golden into my pint glass.A 1+ finger head formed on the pour that slowly faded to a thick cap that lasted throughout the drink. Spotty lacing graces the glass after each sip.Definately a good looking beer.
The aroma is fistfulls of hops over the top of biscuity malt. Pine needles smack you in the face and are trailed by a more subtle floral hop aroma. I also pick something up that’s reminiscent of honeydew. Mild alcohol vapors rise to the nose on the backend.
Flavor is identical to the aroma. Biscuity malts lay a foundation before a mild floral hoppiness shows itself followed quickly by the big bitter piney hops. There’s even a squeeze of grapefruit juice on the swallow. Mild alcohol warmth on the end.
Medium bodied and coating on the throat. Moderate carbonation. Good solid hop bitterness that is accentuated by the dryness this beer leaves behind.
Very easy drinking IPA. Can and have sat down and drank more than a couple in a sitting, the higher alcohol content will catch up to you if you’re not careful.
It’s been a few months since I’ve tasted a Hop Wallop but for some reason this beer is similiar. More toned down but similiar. Anything similiar to Hop Wallop is an IPA I would drink any day of the week. Another great beer from Great Lakes.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear golden color with a medium white head. Aroma of grassy hops, pine, celery and grapefruit. Taste is grassy with hints of floral hops and mild grapefruit. Pretty darn good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a dingy goldish color with about a 1" off-white head. Nose is predominantly hoppy but there is something else mixed in there with this concoction. Another review mentioned celery and I’m going to lean in that vegetative direction. Not overly hoppy/bitter, but the vegetable character remains although I must admit that as I drank, the more I didn’t mind that factor. Somewhat sweet, not overly citric/fruity and an interesting IPA. Thanks to jeffmw for the bottle.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
At first, there was a sweet piney aroma, then as it warmed a bit I got intense grapefruit. Pours gold with a small white head and nice lacing down the glass. Flavor is an intense hoppy grapefruit flavor. There is a mild cereal malt similar to the malt I got in the Dortmunder Gold actually, but it is mostly a hop bomb. This is damn good. Not too dry or resiny which is surprising. More or less a medium body. I like this IPA alot. I need to get more beer from this brewery.

Thanks to Jeffmw for this bottle! This must have been fresh from the brewery. Clear amber color. Smell of hops, grapefruit, malt, pine, grass and citrus zest. Tastes teh same but more pine, citrus and some alcohol. What a nice bitterness at the end. Nice!
