3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Black 95tt for this one. From bottle. Pours a pale, clear orange with thin off white head. Nose is resiny citrus and sweet malt. Flavor follows with a bitter finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma is a pleasent combination of citrus and pine. The color is a golden orange with a white head and decent lacing. The hoppish flavor comes through nicely with notes of grapefruit and an astringent bitter finish.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. My least favorite of the Great Lakes brews that I have tried thus far - still, not bad. Pale, clear, orange color with a nice fairly thick white head. Astringent, citrus, piney aroma. Not a ton of flavor on the first impression, but a nice hoppy finish. I did appreciate the body and feel in the mouth - very smooth. Give it a try.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz, Best if enjoyed by Sep 19 06. Pours a clear light golden with a small off-white head. Aroma of citrus and pine hops--though not really grapefruit. Some caramel and biscuity malts are backing up the hops. Flavor is a little bit perfumey with the pine, and the biscuits and caramels come through the same. Medium body, light-moderate carbonation. The last IPA I had like this was the Paper City Indiaín Pale Ale, though Great Lakes executes this better.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very tasty and hop filled IPA. A tad bigger and hoppier than the well-muscled Burning River Pale Ale, Commodore Perry is very fresh and the hop aroma is tantalizing. This IPA boasts the citrusy hop flavor that I so love as well as a malt presence to create a well balanced beer. The finish is beautifully hoppy.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark golden color with a moderate off white head. Nice heavy pale malt aromas mix with Light citrus and a pinch of pine. There is a rough raw hops aroma that sticks out a touch and throws things off a touch. Smooth with just enough crispness to make things light on the back of the tongue. Peached and cream start the sweetness and then lead to a more citric bite and light grapefruit. Hints of alcohol in the finish and linger. Iím likely higher with my rating as I like the malt backbone, something I miss in too many IPAs out there right now. A solid offering.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 19, 2009 This bottle poured a clear gold with a medium off white head that collapsed to a thin white ring pretty quickly. Initial aroma is some orange and lemon, followed by a faint light toffee. Medium, clean mouthfeel that is slightly resinous. Bitterness comes on quickly, perhaps a little too quickly, but there is a bit of underlying light malty sweetness. Maybe the scales are tipped a little too much toward the hoppy bitter side, but itís still an enjoyable beer. Not Great Lakes best by any means, but better than most.
Update 6/19/2009 - I donít know if theyíve changed the recipe on this, or if this is a fresher specimen, but Iím more impressed with this one. There is a big grapefruit/citrus peel aroma that wasnít in the one that I rated previously. Fresh hoppy aroma and flavors, a big West Coast type IPA. Iím uprating it to a 3.9

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle labeled Sep 26/06. Poured medium and see through golden color with a large sized white head. Aromas of citrus, spicey, and Iím getting a yestiness out of it. Tastes of grapefruit, oranges, and pine. Definitely hops here. Medium alcohol in the finish (a little too hot).

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap @ Riverside in Kent 7/13/06: Light amber w/ a lasting white head. Pretty clear! Piney & lightly lemony citrus hops w/ a some herbal and grassy notes. Toasty malt is medium beyond the hops & lightly nutty for some reason. Caramel is almost absent, but itís there, mostly toasty malt and some bready notes make up for the lack of caramel, and a very light fruitiness. Well balanced but just to bitter w/ piney and herbal hop flavors. Toasty malt again in the palate in even balance w/ hops for flavor, and lightly fruity. Finish is herbal hop and lightly bitter w/ some grassy and caramel notes in the aftertaste which stays mostly grassy. Medium carbonation, medium body, smooth, well hidden alcohol. Itís been a while since Iíve had this, but Iím glad itís back!
