Aroma is citrus and hops. Flavor definetly has malty sweetness which is combined with the citrus hops. Nice balance between malt and hops. Finish is a little dry. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 17, 2006 Updated: Jun 19, 2009This bottle poured a clear gold with a medium off white head that collapsed to a thin white ring pretty quickly. Initial aroma is some orange and lemon, followed by a faint light toffee. Medium, clean mouthfeel that is slightly resinous. Bitterness comes on quickly, perhaps a little too quickly, but there is a bit of underlying light malty sweetness. Maybe the scales are tipped a little too much toward the hoppy bitter side, but it’s still an enjoyable beer. Not Great Lakes best by any means, but better than most.
Update 6/19/2009 - I don’t know if they’ve changed the recipe on this, or if this is a fresher specimen, but I’m more impressed with this one. There is a big grapefruit/citrus peel aroma that wasn’t in the one that I rated previously. Fresh hoppy aroma and flavors, a big West Coast type IPA. I’m uprating it to a 3.9 Kaya161 (1129), San Diego, California, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 10, 2006 All hops and not much malt, which is why it went well with wings, which were way too hot for my tastes. Drinkable but one dimensional and probably not as deserving as the rating i have given it, but i’ll have to try it again. NobleSquirrel (1122), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2007 nice and tasty little brew. The thing I like about Great Lakes is that they forgot the excess in favor of what tastes good. I’ll be the first to say that this is not an over the top IPA, but it qualifies as one of the most quaffable. Reminds me of Goose Island’s.... doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2008 12oz bottle from Walnut Liquorette. Pours orange/yellow with a moderate white head, nice specks of lace. Smells somewhat hoppy, nutty and earthy. Tastes nutty hoppy and slightly bitter followed by lots of malt flavors. I had a pale ale just today that was hoppier than this. Unbalanced? I hope he means malt-wise. Medium body, coats the mouth a bit, sweetness, mellow carbonation. ehhdayton (1115), USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2006 The aroma is a pleasent combination of citrus and pine. The color is a golden orange with a white head and decent lacing. The hoppish flavor comes through nicely with notes of grapefruit and an astringent bitter finish. pineypower (1111), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 1, 2006 Thanks to Sliffy for this one. Pours out a light copper color with a small white head. The aroma is rather plain, some hops there but not overlly obvious. The taste is somewhat light for the alcohol content, but what it lacked on aroma it made up on taste. Nice balance only complaint is that it wasn’t hoppy enough. Flavors of floral hops and some sweet malts.
