| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 30, 2009 Bottle at Monk’s Café, Wallingatan Bright copper color; generous creamy head. Delicate aroma, mixing cookies, cereals, grass, fruity hops, spices; complex, original and stimulating. Medium body strength, the mouthfeel is very smooth; there is a strong caramel and toffee flavor with the perfect balance of hops (indeed strong) and sweetness (just the required amount); the hops have a light citrusy side. The final is very long, with toffee and a biscuity hop character. A wonderful beer, that hits with the strength of the hops and seduces with the harmony and complexity of the potion. A tad bigger and hoppier than the well-muscled Burning River Pale Ale, Commodore Perry is very fresh and the hop aroma is tantalizing. This IPA boasts the citrusy hop flavor that I so love as well as a malt presence to create a well balanced beer. The finish is beautifully hoppy. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Clear and bright bronze in color with an icy & dusty grey sheaf for the head. Honey amaretto and cherry grahams kick start the beautiful aromatic display, geniusly complimented by simcoe sweet pie delight, nectary cedar pine, crumbled rhubarb and delicious strawberry scented bran. First sip affirms that it’s a phenomenal bittering & flavor hop formula. In fact, it’s an IPA at its cherry, strawberry and amaretto best. Balanced baby cakes with a nectar induced pine needle, dripping with cherry maple gloss. Backdrop Disaronno is aroused with a building bitterness which never detracts from the mostly sweet flavor hop impartations from simcoe and amarillo, lingering with a starfruit and sugar glazed grapefruit topicality. Supportive carbonation and balanced beyond belief. Oily amaretto smear gives a desirably thick quality to the body. Nuked, maple-like cherry crumble and a drumming bitterness resound prophetically in the finish. This one’s got fury, but it’s balanced so well that it’s truly enjoyable at every sip and posturing throughout the experience. fiver29 (713), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

A thin tan head rounds out the pour with a medium head retention. Has a medium mouthfeel with a mixture of caramel malt and citrus followed by a hop aftertaste. I really enjoy this IPA by GL. donteatpoop (124), Youngstown, Ohio, USA

Clear light amber color, thick white head and good lacing effect.
Smells like... Holy hops, batman.
Despite the hop heavy taste, the bitterness is not over bearing. Great IPA, and normally I’m not too fond of IPAs.
Decent body, no unpleasant aftertaste; very well balanced beer.
Very drinkable. I can see myself tipping quite a few of these back in a sitting. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2007 Huge hops presence with no shortage of spice, perfume, floral & citrus notes, and evergreen resin. Pours a sparkling yellow gold. The full creamy white head is mostly lasting and leaves sticky curtains of light lace. The flavor is burnt bitterness through & through. Pretty stiff stuff, but hey - I’m a hop head so full speed ahead. Once this brew warms some it softens as malt is able to bleed through somewhat to add a little balance. The full creamy body is soft and feels dry at the finish.
