3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a bit hazy and orange-tinged gold with a solid, lasting one-finger head that leaves some lacing and coagulates like yeast when it settles. Aroma is grass, noble hops and yeasty buttered bread. Taste is quite complex for a classic lager and very well-balanced. Sweet malts and noble hops with flavors of bread, faint citrus and earthy grass. Crisp, hearty and a top-notch example of its style. Perhaps the best non-German variation of a German beer that I've had.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2013 Bottle. Pours crystal clear amber orange with a small white head that dissipates quickly and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is grass, bread, grain. Flavor is surprisingly refreshing, light sweet, light grassy bitter. Light body. I was just surprised by Surly Hell a couple days ago, and this is a bit better. Maybe I am a closet Dortmunder fan?

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Best by 11.10.11.
A - Pours a pretty clear color with a fizzy white head that dissipates quickly.
S - Sweet malts, like Portuguese sweet bread, along with faint spicy hops and slightly yeasty.
T - Delicious sweet bread flavors start this one off, almost somewhat banana-y. Itís followed by floral and spicy bitterness that seems to balance it out with near perfection. A semi dry finish with slight lasting bitterness.
M - Carbonation is to the style; semi dry finish; light bodied.
O - This is a lager to write home about! Despite many unique characteristics, it still manages to focus on being a well balanced, thoroughly flavorful, brew.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold has a thick, soapy, slightly off-white head, a clear, bubbly, old-gold appearance, and pretty substantial lacing left behind. The aroma is of pungent, hearty, medium-roasted malt with possibly a little hop zing. Taste is of light malt, some mild sweetness, and subdued hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and easy going. Overall, this is a very good beer, even though itís a little bit on the dull side. RJT

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Enjoy by 7/27/13. Poured into a heavy ass 12oz mug.
Appearance: Appropriately enough, gold. I had virtually no head on my pour despite being aggressive with it, but thereís a nice little white film that floats on top. Decent lacing.
Smell: I donít know... truthfully, nothing going on here. Itís hard to say it smells good, and itís hard to say it smells bad. It almost smells like nothing, for me. Really, *traces* of malts, but other than that, Iíd think Iím smelling water. Iím gonna have to bump up my taste/appearance/mouthfeel scores just to give a better impression of what I think of the beer overall. Damn lacking aroma!
Taste: Fantastic stuff, right here. This is the final year-round beer from Great Lakes that Iíve had, and like their others, this is great. Thereís virtually no bitterness to speak of with this beer on the front, and thereís a very, VERY nice sweetness that lasts beginning to about the end. While thereís that almost candy sweetness (probably from crystal malts) on the front, the finish mellows out a bit, and welcomes some pretty heavy biscuit flavors, with maybe a slight bit of hops. The slight hoppiness balances out the initial sweetness of the beer. I really enjoy it. Dortmunder Gold also has a solid body, but thatís to be expected with the ABV %.
Iíve yet to have a beer from Great Lakes that Iíve been truly disappointed in. I wasnít overly impressed with Lake Erie Monster, but it still trumps a LOT of other beers that Iíve had. This is just a great beer, and would be a good choice to get somebodyís feet wet into the world of craft beer. It has a nice sweetness, isnít at all off-putting, and has just enough hop flavor and subtle bitterness to let a newbie know whatís to come in the future if they keep drinking craft.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear golden. Aroma is malt, with some sour citrus and even a touch of light milk chocolate. Taste is true to the aroma with a bready malt and some spicy noble hops for balance. Clean and crisp. This is what all the mass produced lagers wish they could be.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at a tasting at our place. Clear golden with white film. A little pickle juice, sweet and a little plastic aroma, sweet and then bitter taste, pickly too. Medium body, fizzy and yet smooth, bitter finish. Nice.
