Complex, roasty aroma with a bittersweet, chocolate-coffee taste and a bold hop presence.

A great Porter, lots of roasted grain, coffee and chocolate flavors. Well balanced, smooth tasting. I recently renewed my acquantance with this brew. My memories were not exagerated. It is still good! I will make it a point of getting it again.

Pours a dark black with a tan head. Very fragrant aroma, coffee, citrus hops, malt, and molasses/caramel. Flavor is full of choclate/coffee with a hard hit of hops! Very unique flavor, a decent filling of the palate. Nice porter.

12oz bottle. this has become a benchmark porter for me. it’s the color of a cola, about 24*L, dark dark brown, almost black with hints of red around the edges. the head is two fingers, dense, tan and follows the beer with pretty lace to the bottom of the glass. roasted malts, chocolate, and slight caramel flavor. hops are minimal, enough to carry through, crisp, quick hop finish, with lingering chocolate aftertaste. very nice.

Appearance: solid brown body, with a lush, flowing head of tannish foam atop, though in a hurry to settle down. Aroma: mild at first, creamy, with hints of nuts, vanilla, caramel, with slowly the better earmarks of a good porter emerging, and we’re getting the roasted coffee, getting roastier and bitterer as we go, and as it unfurls we can detect things weightier, headier, more thick and viscous: molasses, syrup, motor oil. On first sip and gulp, I was magically lifted up and removed from the mundane and the everyday. Mouth-filling, rich, powerful, flavorful, and just plain FULL! Nothing loose or limpid here! Bitterness is just so, and soon turns to the sweet. I don’t know what exactly to liken it to, but it seems to tread a middle ground: no too bitter, not to smooth, juuust right! One caveat: the carbonation feels a bit too cola-like, and that ain’t good, in my book. Finish is fine and long-lasting, settles in to occupy the mouth and endear itself to all the senses. However, a certain heft is lacking in overall body and character, that I would expect, nay demand, out of any true Baltic porter. Needs more Oooom-pa-pa-mow,mow!, if you follow. Still an excellent porter, and one which I’d greatly appreciate more, if it were available in my environs.

Classic rich porter aromas of chocolate and some dark fruit come from this dark brown beer. Smooth flavours of choclate and some coffee - had a creamy texture and a bit of a bitter edge too. Pretty good.

Medium dark brown color, medium tan head as well. Heavily sweet malt aroma, medium sweet hops with some floral woody qualities. Medium body, creamy texture with a light coffee creamer flavor.

Brown. Moderately aromatic, with notes of currants, sweet malts, dark malts, chocolate, bold hops, onions and alcohol. The malts provide notes of prunes, coffee and chocolate while other notes of brown sugar and molasses are present. The hops are bold and very prominent but in this porter it just didn’t work. Too hoppy for its style in my opinion. Not that good.

(12 oz bottle, obtained in trade, thanks Brian!) The nose and initial sip make you think this will be a very mild porter, but that moderately strong dark roasted flavor up front picks up steam in the rather bitter and dark roasted finish; Light, but noticeable sweetness, but somewhat dry on the palate; The beer becomes more coffee-like in both the flavor and nose as it warms to room temperature; Medium to full bodied, about average for the style, and definitely lighter on the palate than the thick, chewy porters; Moderately dark roasted nose; Deep brown color has a ruddy hue when held to the light; Tan head has solid retention and leaves a fairly dense blanket of lacing on the glass at first, but most of that lacing vanishes within a minute or two; Maybe not in the upper echelon of porters, but it's not too far behind

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2005 A nice porter with a burnt chocolate aroma, rich dark brown color, and a nice brown head. It’s not to sweet, like many a porter, and has a chocolate/coffee/burnt malt flavoring. Great mouth-feel.
