Complex, roasty aroma with a bittersweet, chocolate-coffee taste and a bold hop presence.

Pours near black with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Mouthfeel is heavy with a delicious sweet aftertaste. The additional hops provide a nice contrast to the dark flavours, other porters are missing this. Perhaps a tad too sweet for my taste buds. But still an excellent brew from one of my favorite breweries.

12oz. bottle: This beer pours an opaque brown. There was a bit of a tan head that died off rather quickly. Nice big whiff of chocolate to the nose. Also some notes of roastiness and nutiness. The taste is somewhat chocolate sweet, with a nice bitterness to it also. Very smooth and drinkable. Thanks, Jay!

Black-red hue with a large, creamy, tan head that lasts forever. Heavy dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, nutty malt. Moderate flower and herb hops. Aromas of red grapes, plums, and tawny port. Heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderatley sweet, lighlty acidic, moderately bitter finish. Medium-full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: excellent blend of chocolate, roast and fruit!

12 fl oz bottle. Poured very deep brown, almost opaque, some red highlights. Creamy looking tan head, smooth and lasting. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts and notes of coffee. In the mouth roasted malts combine with bitter hops, lasting bitter and coffeeish finish.

A complex beer and a good take on a style that is so often one dimensional. There are vinous characteristics in the aroma and taste. Aroma also has coffee and chocolate, as well as a roasted herbal flavor. Flavor is complex with milk, chocolate, coffee, and earth. Heavy on the palate. Italian spices in the aftertaste. This bottle was nearly a year past its "best by" date; it appears letting it sit for a while helped it along.
