One of the beers i always keep in the fridge. Consistent good, roasty taste. Great Lakes is good for a handful of good beers, just as a Stone, Bells, etc

pours unclear medium dark brown, red tint, with a very nice loight beige head, some retention and lacing. gently smoked roasted malts, dense and complex chocolate, raisins - or chocolate-coated raisins aka glossettes *TM, caramelized nuts, lean red fruitiness. mdoerately low carboantion, light body - oily but never too heavy, assertive yet never harsh grassy-smoky-piney-slightly earthy-bitter coffee finish. very solid porter.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle conveyed to me from a non RB-member. The pour is a deep reddish-brown color with a long lasting tan head. The aroma on this is a delightful collection of milk chocolate malts, smoke, and earthy hops. The body is in the medium range. The taste is much like the aroma with that milk chocolate goodness, smoked cheese, and clean, but vibrant finish. One of my favorite styles taken to a higher level.

Dark and robust. This brew is very tasty, very nice for a cool fall night. Definitely worth a try if you like this style.

From a bottle. Pours dark brown and makes a nice light brown head. Smells of caramel and malt. Tastes of coffee and toffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Classical American porter from Ohio, apparently a rerun of a beer that existed already in the roaring twenties. Thinnish but stable, yellowish beige head, very dark bronze colour, approaching black, clear. Delicate and quite complex aroma of dark malts, cacao powder, bitter chocolate, coffee, raisins, dates, pear syrup, bourbon, kahlua, liquorice. Dark fruits taste with smooth, resinous but light and powdery mouthfeel, complex maltiness with chocolate, nuts and caramel, in the end also a roasted bitterness of bitter chocolate, finishing in an assertively hoppy, bitter tail. Very well-balanced and justly famous.

This is a great go to Porter. Rich, chocolatey, roasty, vanilla, coffee, just great. Exactly what I am looking for in a Porter without the high abv. Great balance with the hops as well. Solid.

Nice complex porter. Dark brown pour. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malts, peat, oak. Taste was equally complex with strong but bittersweet chocolate presence and some dark fruits. Medium bodied and easy drinking for a porter. Excellent.

Aroma is of fresh chocolate brownies mixed with roasted malts and burnt coffee. Sweet cocoa and oak are also in the mix, no hops present and alcohol is very light. Pours a 1/4 inch cappuccino head, body is black with mocha highlights. Head retention is good and lacing is above average. Tastes of charred oak followed by sweet coffee and burnt malts. No hops are detected and alcohol is slightly in aftertaste. Beer is light bodied for a porter but has a nice creaminess like its on nitro. Carbonation is above average and finishes a bit dry. Overall, beer is exceptional for the style. Full flavored, light bodied and session able but with a kick.

Roasted coffee and chocolate aromas. Dark brown-black with a lasting tan head. Dry, roasty, a little charred tasting, subtle dried fruit. Medium-full bodied.
